Together we can help protect one another, and keep society functioning there’s clear track ahead, we just need to stay vigilant so we can all stay safe and well.

Did you know we're also called The California Western Railroad? Originally built by the Fort Bragg Redwood Company as the Fort Bragg Railroad in 1885 to carry coast redwood logs from the dense forests to a lumber mill west of Fort Bragg. Today, we only carry people to admire those same beautiful redwood forests, and you know us as The Skunk Train! Great photo from @fancyfitzee

Our long time fans will already know the origin of the name Skunk, but for all the new faces here's the scoop! The nickname Skunk originated in 1925, when motorcars were introduced. These single unit, self-propelled motorcars had gasoline-powered engines for power and pot-bellied stoves burning crude oil to keep the passengers warm. The combination of the fumes created a very pungent odor, and the old timers living along the line said these motorcars were like skunks, You... could smell them before you could see them. Although the smell is now much reduced, we still like to think of ourselves as that little Skunk running through the redwoods! Great photo from @jonny.does.photography ! See more

Adventure awaits! Unleash your inner child and pedal through the redwoods on our one of a kind custom-built railbikes. Peddling along our historic tracks, you’ll experience a new freedom on the rails, unlike anything else. Without the need to steer, you’re able to look around at the wonder of this untouched stretch of the natural world, spotting blue herons, osprey, an occasional lounging turtle, perhaps a playful river otter or a frolicking deer! | Great photo by @cassiescompass !
