While each generation of Marine Corps training has brought with it changes and improvements, the legendary transformation that occurs here will forever remain the same." - Brigadier General Jason M. Morris, Commanding General of Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and the Western Recruiting Region. For the last century, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego has been responsible for recruiting civilians and transforming them into United States Marines. From the day the first set of recruits stepped onto the depot, to the most recent graduates, they have been taught and molded to fit our core values of honor, courage and commitment. November is Native American Heritage Month American Indians and Alaska Natives serve in the Armed Forces at five times the national average and have served with distinction in every major conflict for over 200 years. Considering the population of the U.S. is approximately 1.4 percent Native and the military is 1.7 percent Native (not including those that did not disclose their identity), Native people have the highest per-capita involvement of any population to serve in th...e U.S. military. They also have a higher concentration of women servicemembers than all other groups. Nearly 20 percent of American Indians and Alaska Natives servicemembers were women, while 15.6 percent of all other servicemembers were women. This is my home, my land. This country fully belonged to the Native American people originally. Geronimo, Cochise, Alchesay, Lozen and Mangus are a few examples of Apache warriors who fought fiercely and relentlessly for their people and land. They fought knowing full and well that their choice to fight could very well mean that they could meet a certain demise. That bravery has been carried on through Native Americans who are still protecting their homeland today. -Gunnery Sergeant Stephanie Roman, San Carlos Apache and Dominican

The U.S. and Republic of Korea (ROK) Marines have fought side-by-side for more than seven decades, in battles such as Incheon Landing, securing Seoul, and the battle of Tra-binh. After the establishment of the ROK Marine Corps in 1948, the two nations have maintained a working partnership since the ROK-U.S. Mutual Defense Treaty was signed in 1953 - still one of the longest standing in modern history. MSgt. Hyuk Kim, from the Republic of Korea Marine Corps, graduated from Dri...ll Instructor School aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., June 25th, 2021. Kim has served in the ROK Marine Corps for 22 years and has worked with United States Marines on multiple occasions. He said he came to observe, participate in, and collect knowledge of different aspects of the training drill instructors receive to bring back with him to the ROK Marine Corps. I wanted to go through DI school to challenge myself, said Kim. I wanted another challenge in my life and to become a better person. Gunnery Sgt. David Yi, an instructor at drill instructor school, was one of the Marines who trained and guided Kim during his time in class. Yi said he saw the Master Sgt. as a mentor to his juniors in class because his desire to set the example and succeed regardless of language barriers. Kim trained with the class of candidates for 11 weeks, going through the same training any U.S. Marine would to become a drill instructor aboard Parris Island. He was an honor graduate, presented with a campaign cover at the graduation ceremony, and recognized with the Gung-Ho award which reflected his determined and motivated spirit during the class. I think we motivate each other by exchanging our experiences, said Kim. Exchanging experiences, culture, and combat power always makes good changes and it improves both U.S. and ROK Marines. Thank you, @coronafiredept, for your assistance to a local veteran! Reposted: Corona Engine 5 occasionally responds into the Green River Mobile Home park. During a recent call, the crew from E5 A-Shift noticed that a resident of the park was flying a Marine flag that was weathered and in need of replacement. This resident is Marine Veteran Richard Bolton, who served in the Marines post Korean War from 1954-1957. Today Corona Engine 5 dropped by his home with a new flag and hung it up for him. Richard was grateful for the new flag, and the Corona Firefighters are grateful for the service he provided to our country! #Marines #Flag #MarineVeteran #ThankYouForYourService
