Elias Telles has been making art since returning from Vietnam with undiagnosed PTSD. He often chooses historical figures to highlight in his work, and will inc...lude their stories by adding text right on the piece. For this painting, however, Elias felt that the story of Tom Dooley was too gruesome to include in print, so he simply wrote "ask gallery for details" in small text over the shoulder - prompting conversation and an oral narrative to become an integral part of the painting! The frames are also handmade by Elias, using wood from his neighbors' fences (which he then rebuilds). Genius. You can see this piece upstairs at The Good Luck Gallery right now! See more
