Yesterday afternoon I had the opportunity to Round (tour is the closest layman’s translation) the COVID care areas (with the strictest of safety protocols of ...course). Not having a Healthcare background, I can’t say I was prepared to see what I saw. In every direction, isolation rooms with patients of differing severity fighting for their lives. Just in the 2 hours I was there, 2 patients lost their battle and passed away. Yet what humbled me, truly humbled, was the teamwork and high spirits I saw everywhere! Nurses, doctors, aides, techs, environmental services- everyone working together to continue providing care for the skyrocketing patient count- and all with smiles!!!! Who does that??? HEROES that’s who, HEROES!!!! As a community, we owe them so much. As an elected official, I will never forget their commitment and sacrifice in this time of need. #healthcareheroes #healthcareworkers #teamwork #bettertogether #inspiration #motivation #healthcoachinoffice #humbled #humbledandgrateful #wewalkintheirshadows See more

We officially opened our new Emergency department waiting room today with a small ribbon-cutting ceremony. The former waiting area was completely remodeled, cre...ating a brighter, more functional space. We also have a new triage area so that, when needed, people with respiratory symptoms that may be COVID-19-related can wait in a separate area until they are assigned an exam room. See more

A heart in the sky over the Monterey Peninsula this afternoon was a wonderful tribute to essential workers, including those in healthcare. Thank you to those behind it: the Lightning Formation Airshow Group, Watsonville Airport, and the California International Airshow Salinas.

What’s in these boxes? Critical supplies for local hospitals and first responders. During a declared emergency like COVID 19, Monterey County’s Emergency Operat...ions Center (EOC) activates to coordinate County disaster efforts. One part of those operations is ‘Logistics.’ What do folks in that section do? In simple terms - they get stuff people need. And right now, they are hard at work bringing in critical medical supplies for local first responders, hospitals, clinics, senior centers, medical offices and non-profits to deal with the COVID19 impacts. The supplies are from the state’s emergency surplus and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Approximately $800,000 - $900,000 worth of supplies such as masks, gowns, gloves, goggles, respirators and sanitizer have been received and distributed to local agencies. See more
