My livestock colleagues put together a great series of webinars on fire in California. This one focuses on fire ecology in California.
For years now, ranchers and land managers have heard that fire was no longer a practical tool. Researchers across California have been working to make fire more available to private landowners. Here's the second in the five part webinar series on applied fire from UCCE Mariposa. This one is on permitting. Stay tuned for the next in this five part series...
Next in the series . . . Join us for Working Rangelands Wednesdays, where we explore topics around rangeland agriculture in California and across the West. The goal of this webinar series is to discuss challenges related to managing multiple-use rangelands through an applied, land manager-oriented lens. Our next webinar is Wednesday, July 15th at 1pm PDT and will feature a rancher-panel discussing how they cope with drought on federal and non-federal public lands in Californi...a. Panelists: Jack Hanson, a cattle producer who operates on private and federal public lands in Lassen County Emilio Huarte, a sheep producer who manages grazing on private and federal public lands in California and Nevada Tim Koopmann, a cattle producer and range manager with experience on nonfederal private lands in the San Francisco Bay Area Register HERE to receive a zoom link the morning of the webinar. Please note, this is not a direct link to the webinar-- you must register in advance. Questions? Please contact Dan Macon at [email protected]. See you on Wednesday! As a follow up to Dr. Ken Tate’s webinar, you can find a new water quality publication HERE. Microbial Water Quality Conditions Associated with Livestock Grazing, Recreation, and Rural Residences in Mixed-Use Landscapes Across 3 rural, mountainous watersheds in California, FIB concentrations were lowest at recreation sites, followed closely by extensive livestock grazing sites. Elevated concentrations and exceedance of water quality standards were highest at sites associated with rural residences, and at intermittently flowing stream sites.
Join us for our next webinar on Wednesday, June 17th at 1pm PDT, which will feature Dr. Tina Saitone, CE Specialist in Agricultural and Resource Economics, presenting "Can you Insure Against Drought? Information and Outcomes from the Pasture, Rangeland, and Forage Insurance Program". Register at https://tinyurl.com/WRWs4 (we will email registrants a Zoom meeting link morning of the webinar)... Working Rangelands Wednesdays is a bi-weekly webinar series where we explore topics around rangeland agriculture in California and across the West.
