We want to began this post by saying thank you! It is an amazing feeling to know you walk this road with us. It has been quite the bumpy road this last year but with your help we have been able to continue to do what we love, care for the precious lives that we have been blessed with. Summer and Missy were able to get their teeth done last week due to the provisions raised by Kadence and her great team from all the items that were donated to our yard sale. It was also great t...o see doctor Wulf! Dr. Sarah has been out to check Lexi. We had X-rays done last month and found why she has been so uncomfortable. Lexi has severe arthritis in her left knee. Dr. Sarah made a second trip to the Refuge to try and give her some relief by doing injections. If that wasn't enough for Lexi LOL, we had to call her out again Thursday due to extreme lameness on the right front. We were very grateful that it was not her arthritis but an abscess. Dr. Sarah cleaned and wrapped her foot and we're hopeful for a quick recovery. In regards to the injections, we are hopeful she can have some relief. We have had a lot of expenses the last few months trying to do our best to keep our residents healthy. If you would like to help with caring for our herd you can do so by our PayPal at Paypal.me trinityhorserefugeca., our website at www.trinityhorserefuge.org, by mail at P.O. Box 5, Brownsville, Ca 95919, by stopping by at 16750 Willow Glen Rd, Brownsville, Ca 95919 and also directly to the vet. We want all who support us monthly to know that we would not be here if it were not for you. Thank you isn't enough to express how grateful we are for you. See more

We want to extend a HUGE thank you to Kaydence of Jade Made for taking charge and heading up a 3 day yard sale for Trinity. Not only did Kaydence and Kate (her beautiful mom) pick everything up, they set it up and took it down. They raised $375 for the dental clinic on June 10th. That is enough to cover Missy and Summer's float. There were a lot of volunteers who also donated items to sale at the Yukon Co-Op on Willow Glen Rd in Brownsville to help out. We are extremely grateful for such kindness. This community has been very good to us and we are so happy to be part of such a wonderful village. Thank you Kaydence, Kate, Connor, Chris, Morgan and all of your Co-Op partners for all your support.

This was a memory that popped up

Trinity Horse Refuge 12.06.2021

This is my third attempt to make a post for Trinity today. For some reason cyberspace keeps loosing them. This has been a hard day here at the Refuge. We made the decision to let The Doctor join Paw Paw and Charlie in heaven this morning. Dr. Sarah came out early and assured us it was the right thing to do. The Doctor could no longer boss his favorite mares or race them to the feed buckets. We could no longer control the pain in his legs and back and we all loved him enough... to put his well being first. I have written this in so many ways and now my heart is just breaking so I'm afraid it's not going to be a very eloquent post. We all loved Doctor very much. He was Goofy, always in Shenanigans, always pulling your ponytails and always making you laugh. We are trying to remember all the blessings that we have here with tears running down our faces right now. We are blessed to take care of of these beautiful souls that you have entrusted us with. As we deal with another loss, please remember us in prayer. His best friend Summer will also need your prayers as she adjusts to life without him. We just paid a 500 vet bill. If you would like to help with Doctor's care you can do so through our PayPal at Paypal.me/trinityhorserefugeca., our website at www.trinityhorserefuge.org, by mail at P.O. Box 5, Brownsville, Ca 95919, by stopping by at 16750 Willow Glen Rd, Brownsville, Ca 95919 and also directly to the vet. Thank you for being apart of our villiage and allowing us to care for these beautiful souls. See more

Conner came out and helped repair our fence in the lower pasture last week. Doctor, Summer and Missy were very happy to be able to help out in fire control. We are very grateful for Conner's help. It has been a little on the quiet side here at the Refuge for the last couple of months. Cathy had a procedure done on her back to help relieve pain and is also having another procedure tomorrow to help identify some of the health issues that have been troubling her. Your praye...rs would be appreciated for good news. Doctor Sara was out to see a few of the residents at the Refuge. Lexi and Doctor had x-rays completed. Lexi has severe arthritis in her left knee and was started on pain medicine to see if she can have some relief from pain. Doctor's prognosis was not so encouraging. Doctor has been on pain meds for several months. His arthritis has gotten to a point where he is not receiving any relief. Dr. Sara is going to try injections to see if we can give him some more time. Dr. Sara also looked at Dallas and Bud while she was here. As many of you know they have been on watch for several months to make sure they are comfortable. Both Bud and Dallas have chronic health issues that we monitor closely. We are afraid that for our three senior boys, time is not on our side. We are going to try and do a medical fundraiser to help us with the upcoming medical costs for Doctor, Dallas and Bud. We are committed to putting them first and doing our best for them. If you would like to help with their medical costs you can do so through Paypal.me/trinityhorserefugeca., our website at www.trinityhorserefuge.org, by mail at P.O. Box 5, Brownsville, Ca 95919, by stopping by at 16750 Willow Glen Rd, Brownsville, Ca and also directly to the vet. We want to thank our long time sponsors who have seen us through thick and thin. Without you we would not be able to care for these beautiful souls. Thank you for making it possible. We love you with all of our hearts. See more

The Refuge is hanging on tight during the challenging times that the world is going through. I am so grateful to our sponsors who have continued to support us no matter what. I have had some medical issues that I am working through, so I have not been 100%. I am so thankful to Lynn S. for giving her all to keep Trinity going. We are also incredibly grateful for a new volunteer Carol. I am working through my health issues and promise to keep you updated. The Refuge is gearing ...up for Apache's fundraiser for her eye. Her first visit is Thursday at UC Davis. She will be evaluated, and a plan will be put in place to try and save her eyes. The estimate to save both of her eyes is $5,000 I know this is not a great time to take on a horse with a chronic condition, but Trinity has never ran in fear. Apache comes from a previous adopter (Sienna and Buttercup) who loves her very much. The owner adopted her seven years ago from another rescue. Apache was placed with a family five years ago who, unfortunately could not provide the care she needed. During a recent fire, the Previous owner evacuated Apache and because of the obvious needs she had resumed ownership of her. Her teeth were floated, she had farrier work done and her shots were given. She even raised enough money to cover Apache's initial care here at the Refuge. When the call came in to see if the Refuge could take Apache in as a resident and continue with her recovery, the answer was yes. No, it was not a great time to assume such an expense, but the previous owner had given her all and the decision was made that we would too. Apache is a lovely mare, 22 years old, well behaved, sweet, personable, loves children, loves to ride and play. She is already loved from all that meet her. I know it is a lot right now, but we are reaching out to our Village for help in giving her a wonderful senior life free of cancer. You can make a donation here through our GoFundMe fundraiser at https://www.gofundme.com/f/apache039s-eye-surgery, Facebook, through our PayPal at Paypal.me/trinityhorserefugeca., our website at www.trinityhorserefuge.org, by mail at P.O. Box 5, Brownsville, Ca 95919, by stopping by at 16750 Willow Glen Rd, Brownsville, Ca 95919 and also directly to the vet. Please indicate Apache on your donation. If there is a reduction in cost we will adjust the amount we need. We will also be holding a yard sale on Saturday November 7th and plan to do a shirt fundraiser also. Thank you in advance for helping Apache. Please come by and meet this beautiful girl in person. Guaranteed you will fall in love with her also. All can help by donating, sharing the fundraisers and the most important, praying. Thank you in advance for giving this beautiful girl a long life here at the Refuge cancer free. See more

Just for fun today. We love these guys!!

Trinity Horse Refuge 21.09.2020

They are home!!!! Thank you Tina for bringing them home safely and to Melissa and family for taking such good care of them. It has been a tad lonely here and our hearts are full once again having everyone back at the Refuge. Apache is settling in, her feet were recently done and Dr. Sara was out to see her. The cancer in her left eye is at a point where removing the eye is her best chance for quality of life. We are confident that we will be able to provide all she needs w...ith your help. We are gearing up for our annual yard sale. Our wonderful friend Lynn has been bringing us some wonderful treasures to fill our tables. We will keep you updated on the upcoming event. If you would like to donate towards our yard sale, come on by. In these challenging times we are concentrating on what keeps the Refuge strong: Faith, Family, Friends and the love for all of those in our care. We are holding on to what God has blessed us with, that includes you! Thank you for continuing to allow us to do what we love to do. See more

As we sit here this morning at the Refuge, listening to the hum of the generator (thank you Bob) while our power is out, being thankful that the winds are beginning to calm down. All evacuation orders have been lifted, including Forbestown, who has been away from home for so long, we are counting our blessings. We are at a dilemma at the Refuge, Cathy is dealing with some health issues along with having part of the herd away (thankful they will be home soon) and the fires..., it would not seem to be a great time to take on another special needs horse. We are very selective about taking in new residents and consider many thing like temperament, individual needs, and if we can provide the appropriate care. Let's face it, we are not getting any younger either LOL. This is Apache, a twenty-two-year-old very sweet mare who was brought to the Refuge yesterday. Many things were thought about before we agreed to take her, most importantly if we felt that our sponsors would welcome her as part of our herd. Apache is very loved, and will be partially sponsored by the surrender. She was re-homed about 5 years ago and when the previous owner went to help evacuate her she was found to have many concerning issues that the current owner was unable to take care of. The old owner was able to get Apache to a safe place during evacuations, have her teeth floated, her feet done, shots and worming also. Another concern was her eye which seems to have a cancerous spot on the eyelid. Jessica did her best to raise the money for the surgery. All that she raised she has forwarded to Trinity for Apache's care. We want to thank those of you who sponsor us who donated to Apache, it really gave Jessica hope. We are currently trying to raise money for Dr. Sara to come and assess her and her needs and the possibility of surgery. We are asking for your support and prayers for this sweet girl. Thank you in advance for your support. Please welcome her to our Village. You can donate by Paypal.me/trinityhorserefugeca. You may also use mail at P.O. Box 5, Brownsville, Ca 95919 or call Dr. Sara direct. To sign up for recurring payment visit our website. Thank you for welcoming her See more

As we're sitting here this evening trying to make sure we have done all that we can do to prepare for the possible PG&E outage and the high winds that are predicted tonight, we are concentrating on feeling blessed instead of fearful. We were given some promising news regarding Dallas. His blood work did show that he has Cushing's, has lost the sight of his right eye but does have limited sight in the left. That is awesome news!!! We are going to concentrate on the good, not... the bad and do all we can for him. We are so grateful to those who donated in honor of Dallas and to Lynn G. and an anonymous donor who covered the entire vet visit. We cannot begin to tell you how blessed we feel that Dallas is loved by so many wonderful people. Thank you to all those who donate, share and most of all pray for us. It takes a Villiage and we are so happy you are part of ours. See more

Part 3, Our Journey Through the Fire. The week has been filled with trying to get back to normal. Thursday brought the news that the fire crossed the Feather River and Brownsville was in an advisory warning. Saturday's news was even more concerning so the decision was made to move part of our resident horses as precautionary measure to ensure if we had to once again evacuate, we could do so safely. We called our faithful friend Melissa and she opened ger home once again ...to Doctor, Summer, Missy, Vienna and Lexie. That left us with our two mini's and our three special need guys. We made a call to Tina who was unable to get through to us on the night of our evacuation due to road blocks, and she graciously agreed to transport the five to New Castle where they will be safe until the evacuations are over. We have been doing our best living on pins and needles waiting for the sirens to once again drive past the Refuge with the sound we now know as "get out now!) We are more comfortable knowing that we can move the remaining five with the trailers at the Refuge including the chickens, doves, cats, bearded dragon, dogs and rabbit. The most difficult part of all of this is Dallas. Dr. Sara seen Dallas during the evacuation and treated an ulceration in his left eye. When we got home Dallas continued to be in pain so the vet was called once again to check his progress . New ointment was given with fingers crossed. When we fed last night Dallas was still showing signs of pain and appears to be totally blind. Dr. Sara is coming out on Tuesday to check him and we need to be prepared for the worse. We have been so blessed through this whole ordeal and a lot more fortunate than a lot if people we know. I hate to ask for donations at this time but we need help to cover Dallas's vet visit and hay for the five residents in New Castle. Thank you to those who have donated through this uncertain time, you have made a difficult situation more bearable. If you can help us with hay and Dallas's care you can do so by Paypal.me/trinityhorserefugeca. To sign up for recurring payment visit our website at trinityhorserefuge.org. If you would like to use mail P.O.Box 5, Brownsville, Ca. 95919. Your prayers are so appreciatedWe love Dallas and are committed to do what's best for him. See more

The rest of the story: Part 2, As the sun rose, the horses got settled in their pens. We were all a little disoriented and set down to regroup and figure out what our plan was. Because we have special need horses we were responsible for their feeding because it's just too hard for the volunteers to keep up with the needs of those type of visitors. We were off to tractor to get feeders, cubes, grain and all the other essentials that the animals were going to need. We got ours...Continue reading

We are safe!. I have tried to write this so many times, so many emotions, so many feelings, that I just couldn't form the words. I'm going to do my best to describe our journey of the last 5 days. After work on Tuesday I checked with the fire department which is only a few properties down from us, on the condition of the Bear Fire. Our policy at Trinity is to leave during a warning and not to procrastinate getting the animals and my family to safety. Because of no cell ser...Continue reading
