He oversaw the rescue and care efforts for stranded animals, facili...tated field and in-house sea otter research projects and promoted collaborations within the sea otter research and conservation community. His efforts included formulating and advancing legislative and policy reform in support of southern sea otter recovery. In his 40-year career, he has worked on the care, rehabilitation, research and conservation of more than 30 marine mammal species. At Defenders of Wildlife, Andy focuses on sea otter issues in California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska, and he covers threats to California’s coastal ecosystems and wildlife, such as ocean pollution, fisheries, energy development, human disturbance and climate change. Andy attended undergraduate and graduate classes in haphazard fashion at nine colleges and universities before finally obtaining a bachelor’s degree from DePaul University. Additional Information: Andy has expertise in sea otter research and conservation, marine mammal care and rehabilitation, wildlife behavior, state and federal permitting, the Marine Mammal Protection Act, human-wildlife coexistence issues and wildlife disturbance mitigation. Before joining the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Andy worked as a Trainer/Performer at the Miami Seaquarium, as Supervisor of Animal Care at SeaWorld San Diego, as Curator of Marine Mammals at the Vancouver Aquarium and as a private consultant on animal behavior and exhibit design at zoological facilities in the U.S., Canada, Asia and the U.K. Andy has served on the Southern Sea Otter Recovery Implementation Team, the Oiled Wildlife Care Network Advisory Board, the Program Advisory Team and Board of Directors of Sea Otter Savvy, the Board of Directors of The Otter Project, the Board of the Sea Otter Foundation & Trust, and the Board of the American Association of Zoo Keepers (San Diego Chapter). Today, National CORE is one of the largest national nonprofit affordable housing developers in the country. Burum is a long-time affordable housing advocate. Early in his career, he was one of 22 real estate professionals to be appointed by Congress to serve on the Millennial Housing Commission, whose mission was to make recommendations for Federal housing policy to legislators. During his 30 years in the development field, Burum established three successful real estate companies in addition to National CORE and Hope through Housing: (1) Diversified Pacific Communities, a builder of custom quality single family home communities throughout Southern California; (2) Diversified Pacific Opportunity Fund, founded in 2008 in response to the market downturn and has raised more than $60 million in private capital to purchase and develop land and other real estate assets; and (3) Colonies Crossroads, a land investment group that has developed a 400+-acre master planned community featuring more than 1,000 residential homes and more than one million square feet of commercial space, of which Burum is a managing partner. Mr. Chapman joined the hospital as our Chief Operating Officer in 2018 and is currently the seventh President and CEO in the history of the hospital. SARH ha...s 363 beds, a staff of over 600 physicians, 2,400 employees and 500 volunteers. The hospital offers advanced patient care throughout the Inland Empire. John is a clinical microbiologist by training and has served as an experienced hospital executive for over a decade. Prior to arriving at San Antonio, he served as Chief Operations/ Administrative Officer at Highland Hospital in Oakland, California. John was not only in charge of operations at this 169-bed general acute care hospital, but also led the clinical and support services for the Alameda Health System. Some of his accomplishments included Alameda’s accreditation as a Level 1 Trauma Center, a Baby Friendly designation and the construction of a 9-story patient tower. Prior to joining the Alameda Health System, John served as Executive Director of Clinical Services, Director of Laboratory Services, and held other positions at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center. In these roles, among other things, he served as the director of the medical center’s service lines including its Orthopedic Institute and Heart and Vascular Institute. He also led a variety of strategic planning processes and system-wide operational initiatives. John earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of California Berkeley and a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management from the University of Phoenix. He is also Lean Six Sigma certified. John, his wife Arnin, and daughter Nicole are avid dog lovers and enjoy whitewater rafting. Rob was born on July 4 in Torrance, California, but was raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, where his family relocated when he was 3 years old. Rob graduated from Mid-Pacific Institute high school in Honolulu. He attended the University of La Verne in Southern California and earned a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism with an emphasis in radio and television. While at La Verne, Rob was chosen as the university's Broadcaster of the Year three consecutive years. Rob began his broadcast career for Top 40 radio station KXPW in Hawaii. Soon after Rob began working part-time for KITV in Honolulu doing sports reporting. He eventually got a full-time slot working as the station's weekday sports reporter and weekend anchor. One of his more memorable assignments at KITV was an award-winning special on Sumo in Japan. The broadcast featured the three top-ranked wrestlers from Hawaii, including Grand Champion Akebono and Grand Champion Musashimaru. Since joining ABC7, Rob has done a great deal of work for the community, hosting charity events and emceeing benefit dinners. In 1996, Rob founded the Heads Up Youth Foundation, of which Rob is the chairman and his wife Sharil is the executive director. The goal of the foundation is to help disadvantaged youth in Southern California.
