Ruthie is a young pup with a tremendous amount of energy and intelligence. Many folks want a smart dog; I don't always recommend intelligent or energetic dogs for first time owners. It can be a very tedious and exhausting process. Her owner has learned a lot in the past weeks. I loved this text that she sent; she understands the process of raising a puppy and building a healthy relationship. "I’ve been focusing a lot on just playing with her and building our bond. I got a fl...irt stick + a 25 ft long line and just entertain her with it for at least 30 mins everyday! I think it’s helped make me more relevant and fun to her, because now when I practice recall she comes back 85% of the time vs being distracted by grass she also makes eye contact with me way more often when we walk " @notorious_ruthie_ . . . . #dogtrainingtips #sandiegodogs #sandiegodogtrainer #mixedbreed #pitmix #shepardmix #bordercollie #trainyourdog #puppylove See more

My K9 Pack School service is a combination of obedience maintenance, pack socialization, loose-leash training, and conditioning to new environments. It is a safe, enriching, and structured alternative to a normal dog daycare. Groups are kept small, allowing each dog to receives personal training time, active play, calm/relaxing time while the other dogs work through their exercises, thus helping them from getting overwhelmed or overstimulated. . . . .... #dogouting #greatdane #labradorretriever #pitmix #dogtraining #sandiegodogsofinstagram #sandiegodogtrainer #dogfun See more

Though this may be the easiest method to starting to walk a dog or to tune them in, I recommend doing this once you have mastered the "Pull to Heel/Sit" method first. In combination they both make for an excellent walk. This teaches the dog to focus on your "Tap-Tap" (leash taps) to avoid leash pressure. By making lots of abrupt "U- turns" and random sits the dog learns to constantly check in with you. Before you turn, or ask the dog to sit you will "Tap-Tap" (gently tap on... the leash 2-3 times) As soon as your dog crosses your knee abruptly turn a different direction. If you turn into them, it will slow them down. If you turn away from them, it will speed them up. Say, This way! before you turn or there is tension on the leash, and change direction. Randomly ask the dog to sit: "Tap-Tap" - "Sit"/"Up-Tension" - Reward (food/toy/moving forward.) Reward your dog with food, praise and affection for staying on your side. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDO3g_sduM4

6 of 7 - This was the magical moment they became friends. Rajah has access to the outdoors, it was a huge pleasant surprise for me when we went for a walk and found that Rajah was following us. After about 15 mins of walking, Rajah and Blue started playing and chasing each other. . This video series was from about four months ago when I stayed at Tucker's home for about a week. Blue came along, he was about 6.5 months old, and Tucker was five months. I wanted to show the pr...ocess of developing the relationship between my dog Blue, Rajah, and I, Enjoy. . . . #dogtraining #sandiegodogtrainer #huskypuppy #huskylife #huskynation #simesecat #kittensofinstagram #goldenretriever #goldenretriberpuppy See more

5 of 7 - Taking the party indoors was very different; Rajah had many more boundaries indoors and wanted to be given space. I always use cats as an example of using "Punishment." Animals are very efficient in telling each other what is acceptable and isn't. It seems like nowadays humans could learn a lot about training dogs from cats. . 4 of 7 - After trying to get to play with Rajah, I brought Blue inside and let the kitten take a moment to decompress. I kept Blue inside and waited for Rajah to come looking for us. This was their first smell/greeting. Take note that Blue has an excellent "Out" command (get away from what you are doing.) I wouldn't have let them greet off-leash If I hadn't already proofed this command many times. . This video series was from about four months ago when I stayed at Tucker's h...ome for about a week. The right client for me is one that wants more than stopping a behavior, it’s one that wants to be a dream team with their dog. We learned about motivation, and introducing new behaviors to Chance using playtime as a reward. During our fourth session we introduced another dog to Chance. It was astonishing, the positive behavior, such a difference after only three sessions! Chance was calm, relaxed, able to walk side by side the other dog without any negative reaction! Our ve...ry positive take-a-way....... 3 of 7- After two days of letting the kitten, Rajah explore Blue (while Blue was in a crate and tethered to a "place."), I brought out Rajah to where Blue and Tucker were playing. This is the first time that I've ever heard Blue bark. They were excited and nervous all at once. Rajah knows very well how to behave around a puppy, and Blue lived with my housemate's cat for a few months. . 2 of 7 - One of the most valuable things you can teach a puppy is to stay in a "Place" this is the next advanced behavior after learning to remain calm in a crate. It is a crate without walls. Practicing this while tethered is one of the best ways to keeping dogs from becoming reactive on a "down" while outside in distracting areas. . 1 of 7 - This is Tucker and Rajah; they live together. This was the first day that I taught Tucker how to walk on a leash attached to his collar. Walking a puppy is a lot of work; it is very unnatural for them. I always recommend that when teaching a puppy to walk, you take it slow, have fun, and keep the sessions short. Fun Games for better behaved dogs and trusting relationships: We all want a dog that will trust, enjoy being with us, and willingly follow through with our commands/requests. The absolute best way to get to that is through play. You must first teach commands through food (this is the most precise way to introduce new commands); once you learn your dog’s playing style, you slowly substitute food rewards with games and play (toys, search, fetch, tug, search, etc.)... Games and play is a fantastic way to build obedience for distracting situations. When owners practice being entertaining, fun, and exciting while rewarding with toys and food, your dog will keep its attention on you and be happy to fulfill your requests even after getting corrected for unwanted behaviors. Structured playing sessions combined with obedience requests, can develop a relationship, engagement, and eliminate reactive, aggressive, and anxious behavior. . . . #workdog #frenchiesofinstagram #bostonterrier #frenchiebostonmix #puppylove #puppyplaytime #dogtrainingtips

Meet "Lil'E". We met a few weeks ago and worked on many things: Leash aggression, proper behavior when meeting dogs, eye contact (focus), basic commands, and executing commands around distractions. Today was a big day; she met and walked along with my boy and kept her safe distance. I wish I would have caught it on video. I'm very impressed with how quickly her owners have learned to teach her new habits and behaviors and how consistent they have been. None of our progress wo...uld have happened without their hard work. . . . . #adopteddog #pitmix #terriermix #dogtraining #sandiegodogsofinstagram #sandiegodogtrainer #enjoyyourdog #getatit See more

2/2- Don't let anyone let you believe that any tool will have your dog behaving. Anything that you use on your dog: leash, food, crate, or an e-collar needs first to be taught to the dog. These texts and videos are not proof of my training skills; they reflect how much work Nube's owners have put into training. They put dozens of hours, and just like any relationship. The more you put into it, the more you get out of it. Nube's is a very sensitive dog and was blowing her own...er's off around distractions. With her, I used a protocol to have her fully engage and trust our requests. We first taught her how to use her eyes for engagement, proper low-intensity use of the leash, and then we moved to teach her that the sensation from the e-collar means getting tasty treats from us. Feel free to reach me if you need help conditioning your dog to an e-collar or have had a bad experience and want to teach it enjoyably and happily. #ecollartraining #ecollartechnologies #samoyedsofinstagram #samoyed #sandiegodogtraining See more

Welcome Chance to the team, He will be doing sessions with me to work on his impulse control on his walks. His owner will be working on rewarding him in new ways as a lifestyle, personal space, and the basics for a safe and calm walk. Everything we want outside with a dog must first be controlled inside. Before this video, Chance worked on almost 1 hour of "Place" to get the greeting and affection that you see in the video. The more self-control he has inside, the easier it is to keep a dog motivated and calm as you guide or correct through different behaviors outside. . . . #americanbully #pitbull #pittynation #pittylove #pitbullsofinstagram
