Thai CDC has been awarded a grant in the amount of $891,450 from the TIDES Foundation to continue providing cash and food assistance to undocumented immigrants through the CA Immigrant Resiliency Fund. Thai CDC has already provided $767,000 in cash assistance to 765 households and $620,000 in food vouchers to 1,110 households. This additional funding will allow us to continue bringing aid and relief to vulnerable members of the community still experiencing great economic hard...ships as a result of the pandemic. If you or someone you know qualifies for our Thai CDC CARES cash and food assistance program, please go to the Thai or English flyers in the links and contact our Thai speaking Intake Specialists, Ada or Suchanya, at the two telephone numbers provided or at the emails [email protected] or [email protected] at the bottom of the second page of the flyers.

Thai CDC has been awarded a $150,000 grant from the Liberty Hill Foundation as an outreach and training partner for the Los Angeles County Public Health Councils program. Only 8 organizations were selected in the County of Los Angeles. As part of this grant, Thai CDC staff will receive training and become certified as a Community Worker Organization in Los Angeles County. The grant will allow us to specifically outreach to Thai workers in the restaurant industry and educate them about their labor rights and how to protect themselves from COVID-19 infections in the workplace.

Thai CDC has received the Circle of Change Award, a donor-advised fund of the Asian Pacific Community Fund (www.circleofchangela.org.). The Circle of Change supports non-profit organizations and projects that make transformative, positive change within the Asian Pacific/Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities in the Greater Los Angeles area that directly engage AAPI community members in this critical work. After a decade of its founding, the Circle continues to see unprecedent...ed social, health and economic needs caused by discrimination and racial injustices levied on AAPI and all communities of color. For that reason, the Circle remains committed to the most vulnerable and underserved. Thai CDC is so grateful to the Circle for recognizing its work as transformative rendering positive change and justice to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable. Here is the video that captures our efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic to come to the aid and relief of individuals and families experiencing great hardships at this time and that ultimately made our work deserving of the grant award from the Circle.

Did you know that there are over 80,000 Thais in Los Angeles County, and over 295,000 Thais nationwide? In a 1995 interview with LA Times, Thai CDC founder Chanchanit Chancee Martorell noted: People know more about Thai food than they know about Thai people. Many Americans would be surprised to learn that survivors of human trafficking in the U.S. are disproportionately Thai men (60%), with many serving as construction and agricultural workers. This is precisely why ...community organizations that center the most marginalized are important--to intimately understand the conditions of the people, and to serve and defend the underrepresented and underserved Since March, our Thai CDC CARES program has distributed over $287,000 in emergency cash aid, with another $479,000 more to go. Our program provides immediate cash aid to undocumented community members and those in dire financial strife. For ALL Undocumented, call: Maggie at 323-457-0802 or email [email protected] For ALL Documented, call: Ada at (323) 484-8863 or email [email protected] Complete our survey to help us advocate for resources to serve diverse and underserved parts of the Thai community. In 2008, we opened Palm Village Senior Housing, providing 60 units of much needed affordable housing for our seniors. Then and now we understand the importance of caring for our elders, especially as many are struggling to meet their basic needs amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Many are isolated at home and can’t see their friends or families for fear of contracting the virus. In addition, accessing government-issued COVID-19 related news in Thai can be difficult. That is why ...our CARES program provides seniors free groceries and meals (over 600 meals distributed thus far!) and supplies for art projects they can do at home. We also provide COVID-19 related information in both Thai and English through two dedicated staff members, and help individuals and families enroll into affordable health insurance. Complete our survey to not only benefit Thai seniors, but the Thai community at large. When you support Thai small businesses, you support Thai families, small communities and neighborhood economies Recognizing the effects the COVID-19 pandemic has had on small businesses, our CARES program team went to work right away, providing small business entrepreneurs with counseling and technical assistance, and access to grants and financial aid for struggling or closed businesses. Pictured are our incredible vendors in our soon-approaching Thai Town Marketpla...ce! The Thai Town Marketplace, or TTMP for short, was born out of a needs assessment, with community residents stating that their biggest needs include economic development, job opportunities, and an enlivened East Hollywood. For many years, our vendors and Thai CDC staff have been working diligently to ensure the best market experience possible. TTMP not only gives low-income vendors from the community the support to make their businesses thrive, but supports local farmers and increases community access to fresh food. When you fill out our survey, you support Thai families across the country! Your survey data will help us advocate for economic, social and cultural support services that strengthen community resilience. In an urgent effort to address the Thai community’s needs amidst this pandemic, we launched Thai CDC CARES, a comprehensive program providing culturally-relevant holistic support services in April this year. Our services include assisting laid off and furloughed workers ...with applying for unemployment assistance; providing rental counseling and assistance; foreclosure prevention and intervention; reinstating utilities for renters and business owners; and enrolling eligible individuals and families in public benefits at our Farmers’ Market (@ehfarmersmkt). Help us further our work in supporting Thai families! Here are some smiling faces that make our community great Complete our survey to support Thai families. Democracy in Action We are now five days away from the final day of the 2020 general election. Mail-in ballots have already been sent to voters in California. Some in-person voting centers in Los Angeles County opened on October 5 and others will open in the next several days. This is, no doubt, the most important election of our lifetimes. On the federal front, we are voting for president, choosing to reelect the White House's current occupant or select a new leader. Gi...ven the enormous challenges we are facing as a nation and a planet, it is critical that we elect a president who understands the pressures we face individually and collectively and uses his knowledge of science and math alongside his care and concern for his fellow Americans to provide thoughtful, responsible leadership. And we need a president who serves as a unifying figure, building alliances and bridging differences, not stoking hate nor aligning with bigots and hate mongers. This election is also important in terms of addressing the most challenging issues California faces. We have the opportunity through our vote to once again adequately fund our schools, undo racially discriminatory laws, and inject some measure of equity and fairness into our criminal justice system. The A3PCON 2020 Voter Guide (the 30 pager and 2 pager version) is our effort to provide LA County voters with a better understanding of the state and local ballot measures that can change the trajectory of our state and county for the next fifty to one hundred years. We hope you will read it carefully and utilize it in making your decisions. And we hope you will share it with colleagues, friends and family. Your vote is your voice. Be heard. See more
