It's her birthday week! And to celebrate the most wonderful Executive Director, our staff team entered her in World Market's contest. We nominated her under "Acts of Service & Kindness," showing how she makes our community better. Prizes range from gift cards to the grand prize, $25,000. So click on the link below and vote for our dearly loved fearless leader! (And even if she doesn't win, send Dawn some birthday love on Wednesday ) #mybossisbetterthanyours #fairygodboss

Remember our week of gratitude a little bit ago? We'd like to squeeze in Andytown Coffee Roasters because they're having a bake sale in our honor! They are committed to justice and committed to partnering with us in our community work. 100% of sales will go to Sunset Youth Services. To get into the seasonal spirit, all of their handpies in this bake sale will be filled with fall-spiced apples. Each order includes three handpies, and will be picked up at their Lawton cafe tomorrow, Saturday, 10/10. Get yours today!

We at Sunset Youth Services stand against racism and violence, period. Recently a video was posted of a youth harassing an elderly asian man in San Francisco. In the social media bio of this person they had a link to a song by one of our artists. To be clear: this youth is NOT an artist at Upstar Records, one of our projects, and is unknown to us. It appears he was a fan of one of our songs and nothing more. The artist of that song is definitely not the same person as seen in the harassing video. 100% not the same person. That said, like many of you, we are deeply hurt by the racist targeting of the elderly and stand as allies in helping to stop this type of harm.

We hope you've enjoyed learning more about some of our partners during our week of gratitude! Our final thanks goes out to the many supporters that have generously given their time, energy, and resources to us. This pandemic hasn’t been easy on our community but with extra food delivery volunteers, gift cards, baby supplies, and extra donated food, we’ve been able to serve and continue supporting our youth and families. Thanks for being on Team SYS -- you know who you are! If you'd like to join the fun or just learn more about our giving opportunities, visit: https://www.sunsetyouthservices.org/donate

Today, our thanks goes out to local singer-songwriter Rachel Garlin! For several years now, she has been volunteering with our youth, mentoring them and collaborating in songwriting sessions. Proceeds from her COVID-era CD sales, virtual concerts, livestreams, and socially-distanced sidewalk jams were donated to our community. Thank you for being in this with us; we love and appreciate you! For Rachel’s music, visit: https://rachelgarlin.com/music. Trust us, your ears (and especially your heart) will thank you

Each day this week, we’re posting some good news and great partners in our work! Today, we are thankful for Devil's Teeth Baking Company. Known for their breakfast sandwiches and wide variety of baked goods, this local spot should also be known for supporting our youth and families. Their shark cookie fundraiser was a success and our community is so grateful! To learn more about Devil's Teeth (and those delectable shark cookies ) visit: http://www.devilsteethbakingcompany.com/sweets-and-desserts/
