Status of the Aerospace Museum June, 7, 2017 The Boron Chamber of Commerce would like to address some questions and concerns that have been raised about the status and condition of the Aerospace Museum in light of the recent temporary closure of the museum. In April 2017, the Boron Chamber elected a new set of directors to oversee the Chamber of Commerce and its Committees for the 2017/2018 year. During this change in organization, we took the time to review our museum comm...ittees, how they were managing according to Bylaws and their volunteer status. During this review, it came to our attention that the Aerospace Museum’s documentation for artifacts, inventory accountability, management of the committee and its financial documentation were not up to standards according to the Chamber Bylaws. We asked the volunteer committee to close the doors to the public and take the time to organize, and compile the appropriate documentation. During this time, a few of our volunteers chose to resign from the Museum committee. The Chamber is currently in the process of re staffing the committee and we are taking the time to organize, and correct documentation to protect the donors, Museum and the Boron Chamber of Commerce. We apologize for the rumors and negative comments that have surrounded these recent events. We recognize that better communication about the efforts and timeline would have been appreciated by the public and the donors. We simply did not foresee that the doors would be closed this long or that the effort required to address the gaps would be so extraordinary. Currently, a small committee has been organized to account for all inventory, and to document its history and status. We will be reaching out to the donors to ensure that the documentation is complete. Our next steps will be to bring on a new group of volunteers. We will advertise and begin holding public meetings for people who are interested in volunteering, or investing in the organization. Once this timeline is established, and the meetings scheduled, we will follow up with the public to announce the date, time and location. When we have appointed new volunteers the Chamber will arrange for appropriate customer service training and instruction on the history of the museum to ensure we have a well-run and organized learning facility for schools, organizations and public to visit and enjoy the history of our area. Thank you all for your cooperation during this time of reorganization. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact a member of your Boron Chamber of Commerce, or email us at [email protected]. Sincerely, Boron Chamber of Commerce
