MAYFLOWER ARTICLE: It was a nice surprise to be in a newspaper article today! BTW, I descend from four Mayflower familieswhich translate into 13 Mayflower pas...sengers. I had introduced Dr. Peter Wood, the author, to three friends of mine who are Mayflower descendants: D’Ann Nash, Beth Lambright, and David Hess. They were also quoted. https://nypost.com//mayflower-descendants-defend-ancestor/

This 1903 map was made by the United States Engineer Office and shows the location of known shipwrecks off of Cape Cod. The numbers were used to identify the wr...ecks, I'm currently looking for the key. As you can see, thousands of ships were destroyed and many more souls lost on the back beach between Chatham and Provincetown. This map was made 117 years ago and since that time thousands more have gone to rest in Davey Jones' Locker. See more

Ten Things Most People Don't Know About the Mayflower Story. Hey all. In honor of the 400 year anniversary of the Mayflower arrival, I'm giving a PowerPoint pre...sentation to the Marin Genealogical Society this coming Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7:00pm via zoom. If you want to watch, write to the society at [email protected] and they will send you a link for ZOOM. Hope you'll cheer me on. I've been gathering this research for decades. One correction to their flyer: I have 14 Mayflower ancestors, not 12. PS. The presentation itself will probably start at 7:15 after their meeting. Hugs. See more

The next film in our My Mayflower digital series explores the story of Mayflower Reflections, a virtual reality experience that immerses audiences in the story ...of the momentous journey and explores the contemporary parallels with the early voyagers. Arts organisation Metro Boulot Dodo Leicester (MBD) have created the remarkable new experience, which allows audiences to put on a Virtual Reality Headset from the comfort of their own home and find themselves transported back to the 17th century. As they hear of the story of these early settlers, viewers will learn of how much has changed since the voyagers first settled on the land, and the similarities between their journey and the journey of millions of asylum seekers today. You can watch the experience on YouTube from 12noon Saturday, July 25, at MBD's YouTube: https://youtu.be/_2pfdj4zrrc And from 5pm this evening, you can watch our My Mayflower short film here when we talk to Paul Long, creative director, who will tell us about the themes of the project, including how persecution still affects a great many people today and the similar journeys we still take - as well as the impact those voyages had on other people.

Update: This post has been edited, as the Pilgrims departed from Delfshaven, not Leiden, on the Speedwell; they did leave from Leiden (some on foot, some on hor...seback) to meet up in Delfshaven and depart for England. From MayflowerHistory.com: "They hired a ship called the Speedwell to take them from Delfshaven, the Netherlands, to Southampton, England, to meet up with the Mayflower. The two ships planned to sail together to Northern Virginia. The Speedwell departed Delfthaven on July 22, and arrived at Southampton, where they found the Mayflower waiting for them." Our original post did explain that the Pilgrims departed from Delfshaven after the Reverend Robinson prayed for their voyage, but incorrectly named "Leiden" in the beginning of the post. We apologize for any confusion! Today is the 400th anniversary of the date the Mayflower Pilgrims embarked on the start of their journey for the New World. After one last joint meal and service in the home of Reverend John Robinson, the group of 16 men, 11 women and 19 children made the trek from Delfshaven, Holland to Southampton, England on July 22, 1620. The ship this group boarded in Delfshaven was not the Mayflower, but the Speedwell, which was going to meet the Mayflower in Southampton, and set sail for America together. The night before the Pilgrims departed [July 21] was spent praying in front of the church, now known as the Pilgrim Fathers Church. Today, there is a stained glass window depicting the historic moment the Pilgrims set off, and a bronze plaque of the Boston Congregational Club from 1906 praising the hospitality offered by the church to the pioneers. The following morning [July 22], residents of Delfshaven and friends of the Pilgrims gathered to see them leave. Rev. Robinson led prayers and, after an emotional goodbye, the Speedwell set a course along the River Maas out to the North Sea and en route to Southampton. We pay tribute to this critical moment in Mayflower history at the Mayflower Meetinghouse in Plymouth, Massachusetts, with the Tiffany stained glass "Robinson" windows. These beautiful windows were restored and reinstalled last December. The next time you are in Plymouth, be sure to look up!

THE MAYFLOWER AND SPEEDWELL...THE PILGRIMAGE STARTS They’re on their way. It’s 22nd July and on this day, 400 years ago, a group of 50 Pilgrim Separatists are l...eaving Holland on board the SPEEDWELL. How were they feeling? Here’s an extract from Caleb Johnson’s MayflowerHistory.com website The Mayflower was hired in London and sailed from London to Southampton in July 1620 to begin loading food and supplies for the voyage--much of which was purchased at Southampton. The Pilgrims were mostly still living in the city of Leiden, in the Netherlands. They hired a ship called the Speedwell to take them from Delfshaven, the Netherlands, to Southampton, England, to meet up with the Mayflower. The two ships planned to sail together to Northern Virginia. The Speedwell departed Delfshaven on July 22, and arrived at Southampton, where they found the Mayflower waiting for them. The Speedwell had been leaking on her voyage from the Netherlands to England, so they spent the next week patching her up. To be continued.. as we follow the dramatic voyage of the Mayflower throughout this summer Painting by Mike Haywood http://www.mikehaywoodart.uk/mayflower.html Last year I donated 11 of my original Mayflower collection of paintings to the General Society of Mayflower Descendants (GSMD) of Plymouth, Massachusetts, in perpetuity as a gift to the American Nation. They will be on permanent display at the Mayflower Society House in Plymouth.

PASSENGERS OF THE MAYFLOWER Edward Doty was born some time between 1595 and 1599 in the North Lincolnshire village of East Halton, and boarded the Mayflow...er in 1620 as a servant to Stephen Hopkins. No information can be found on his first wife, but Edward remarried in 1634 to Faith Clarke and the couple went on to have nine children. Unlike many non-Church members, Edward stayed in Plymouth his whole life and passed away in 1655.
