Why we ask for help? Because they need our help and we can see their potential. Why we love to rescue? Because it feels good to work together with amazing people to make transformations like this possible!... This is Thor, he was saved from the streets of TJ and because we have an amazing team of people we trust, we can make this happen Thor has had no financial backing other than our own rescue account and if you would like to help us with his vetting and or pension costs please donate Many thanks to Chelita M, Yuya D, Steven B #rescuedismyfavoritebreed #rescuelove #mustlovedogs #scratchmybellydogrescue

So I'm not ashamed to admit I cried today when Ginna announced she adopted Minnie! That dog has had her heart from the beginning and it was mutual. I couldn't imagine how long Ginna would suffer if Minnie went to another home. MINNIE is now officially HOME with her foster family FOREVER!!

WELCOME to 3 new additions to Scratch My Belly! Doby, on the left, is a 2 year old male Chiweenie, 10 lbs, who was neutered yesterday and who will get his vaccines and chip in the next week. He is good with kids and other dogs and is housebroken. He likes to snuggle and is a lap dog, good on a leash. He sits on his rump and waves his paws to beg to go out - so cute! DOBY NEEDS A FOSTER or Foster to Adopt in the San Diego area, Murrieta/Menifee/Temecula. He will be available for adoption in 2 weeks. Lily is a Chiweenie with more Doxie than Chihuahua and she is about 10 lbs and 2-3 years old. She and her female puppy, who will be 8 weeks old on Friday, were surrendered together. They are being fostered together and will not be available for adoption for a couple of weeks.

LOOK WHO IS ADOPTABLE!! Little Butters is just 6 pounds of small dog love and he is ready for a home! Butters is a Terrier/soft coat mix. He is 1-2 years old and has been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He does well with other dogs and would be a great family dog with children 8 and older who understand how to treat a small dog. ... Butters is in San Diego and is available for adoption in Southern California. Go to our website at scratchmybelly.org and click ADOPT to fill out an application. We select homes for dogs based on the best match for each individual dog, not based on when applications are received. Let's find Butters his forever home!

TIME TO HELP IS NOW!!! With our first rainy days about to kick in this weekend, we need your help to help some of our front battle warriors in TJ. They are independent rescuers, that are not sponsored but they spend their days getting many of our future recruits of out danger and into their own homes until a rescue agrees to help them. Right NOW, they need blankets, food and crates too. CAN YOU HELP??? If so please, send us a message. If you can offer your place a donation d...rop off, please let us know too! PayPal donations - [email protected] Website link www.scratchmybelly.org/donate

THIEVES BROKE INTO our volunteer's car and stole the entire box of masks that were fundraisers for the rescue!! We spent $100 on fabrics and materials for ear pieces and our wonderful volunteer, Lee, spent hours and hours sewing the masks that were stolen! Since then, he has made more - but we need more fabric and stretch pieces and... wire -- we need another $100 to replace what was stolen! Please - if you can help us - send in a donation to our PayPal acct at scratchmybelly.org or go to the website at that same name and click Donate One Time. Please mark your donation for Mask Materials. ALSO - if you have any nice Christmas fabric we can have to make masks, we will pick up! Thank you!!

This dog's owner had a hard time surrendering him. Testimonials from other recent owners who entrusted their dogs to us helped her make the decision. We do everything we can to help owners feel as good as possible and we keep them informed and send photos. Things happen and a good rescue can make such a difference.

ANOTHER ONE Of the things that can kill and maim your dog -- pencil cactus! Very popular in Southern and Western US - any part that breaks off has a toxic milky substance that can cause blindness or major skin burns on any animal and humans too! We do not allow fosters or adopters to have these and get a Scratch May Belly dog. Get them out of your house and out of your yard! Be careful on walks as lots of people use them in plantings next to sidewalks and streets!

Reading about dogs who die because they are fed chunks of carrot that are too big and when not chewed, block the intestine - this dog died from eating the tag off of a toy - another died from swallowing the squeaker in a toy (that happens wayyyy too often) - PLEASE DO NOT LET YOUR DOGS EAT THINGS OR CHEW TOYS UNSUPERVISED! Lots of dogs die from bully sticks, others break teeth off or die from antlers and hooves -- even a hard treat that isn't chewed can be deadly! THINK ha...rd about what you give your dog and even harder about what you let them have when you're not around!! NOTE: this was NOT a Scratch My Belly dog

Now reviewing applications for some of these babies they will be going home in about 2.5 weeks. Available for adoption in Southern California. These will be likely large breed dogs. Mom is about 40 lbs, dad is unknown. Puppies require time and training, so please don’t apply if you don’t plan to work with your pet.... To apply go to www.scratchmybelly.org/forms. Home check applies. Application is not a guarantee of acceptance or approval

Our dog is safe and was never in danger because of a screen door - but dogs under 10 lbs can never be left alone on a balcony or in a yard due to raptors and a coyote will take a dog over 20 lbs! I have seen a coyote carrying a dead Beagle -- they are strong!

A Chiweenie - a Dachsund crossed with a Chihuahua - makes for a fantastic dog! This breed mix helps reduce some of the problems some Doxie's have - back issues and stubbornness - while keeping the size, intelligence and affectionate nature of the breeds. Every now and then Scratch My Belly gets a Chiweenie and we have a wonderful, young male right now who needs a foster or forever home! His name is BOLT and his pictures are in the comments. BOLT's happy disposition means he will fit in lots of different homes but he is protective of his person and is not okay sharing with another male his size. He loves kids and is ok with cats. He only weighs about 10 lbs and will be neutered, vaccinated and chipped before adoption. Please SHARE BOLT - let's find this special dog a wonderful place to shine!

THANK YOU FOR REACHING THE GOAL FOR STEVEN'S BIRTHDAY FUNDRAISER! When I did Steven's birthday wish today, I realized he has brought in more than 40 dogs to Scratch My Belly. Many of those dogs had multiple diseases, some near death. Steven just turned 23 today - he is young and committed and works his tail off every day to save dogs from Craigslist to the streets of Tijuana. He has changed so many lives -- for the dogs, but also for the people who love them. Let's show him that we value his desire to do the right thing for all of them!
