IT IS WITH A HEAVY HEART THAT WE ANNOUNCE THE PASSING OF RIO HONDO PREP FACULTY MEMBER, MR. ORRICK W. HAMPTON JR. Mr. Orrick Hampton shared his passion for math..., science and astronomy with his students at Rio Hondo Prep for over 50 years. He was a mentor to hundreds of students in the classroom and a father figure to many international students, who had the wonderful privilege of staying at the Hampton home with Orrick and his wife, Marla. In the early days of Boys' Christian League (now Kare Youth League), Orrick was a vibrant leader who inspired boys to reach for the stars! He saw the greatness in each player and was a huge part of RHP's football program over the years. Orrick was also a Bible scholar and loved to challenge boys with Bible basketball games. As technology continued to develop, Orrick was always at the forefront inspiring students to learn programming skills and providing a vision for the RHP technology department. One of his favorite times of year was at science camp, where he could share the wonders of God's universe with his astronomy students at Mount Kare. The City of Covina is currently seeking Prop 68 grant funding in order to make park security, beautification and infrastructure improvements at Wingate Park. Along with major improvements to the Watershed Management Program, the project will allow for new park amenities including new playing fields, walking trails, lighting, playground and other features. The city is asking for feedback from the community and park patrons. Thank you to everyone who came out to our Winter Wonderland last Saturday at Wingate Park. It was so much fun to see you all and we hope it helped to brighten your holiday season! We’d especially like to thank Creatable Inflatables for donating the six large 10-15 foot ornament inflatables. They were a huge attraction. We may have just found a new holiday tradition! Saturday night is our final Winter Wonderland event and it looks to be bigger and better than ever! Be sure to stop by Wingate Park between 5:00 - 6:00 for a wonderful Winter Wonderland! Santa Claus will be there along with your coaches, lots of Christmas music, decorations, toys for the kids, Christmas lights and more! We will not be able to have our cool drive in movie experience as we had planned, but we will still play some Christmas classics on the big screen to enjoy as you drive through our land of Christmas Inflatables and snow! Don't forget to bring your SOCKS FOR SANTA donations to help out those in need at this time of year! Let's fill up Santa's bag with warm socks for the homeless.

UPDATE ON TAWNY DRAIN Back in October 2019, we posted that RHP Graduate and former KYL member Tawny Drain was in search of a living liver donor. We found out in December 2019 that she had over 40 people offer to be tested in her behalf. (Keck USC said this was a record for them) WE SO THANK THE KARE AND RHP ALUMNI FOR THEIR OUTPOURING OF LOVE AND CONCERN.... Friday, June 5th the doctors at Keck USC told Tawny they had found a donor. The surgery is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, 2020. It will begin at 5:30am and end around 11:00pm... an all day Adventure! God has provided a perfect donor: Mrs. Kim Parker will be giving Tawny 2/3 of her liver. We are beyond thankful and overjoyed. Words cannot express God's goodness. We are again so grateful for all those that went out of their way to be tested to see if they were a match to Tawny. The Drains and Parkers ask for your continued prayers for Tawny and Kim. Our two families have a special bond that spans 5 decades, but never did we expect anything like this. Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. Kare Youth League's elementary school, Pearl Prep, is now accepting tours for Fall enrollment.

Pearl Prep students produced an online musical comedy play during quarantine which we proudly share with our Kare families. It is family friendly and guaranteed to make you laugh! You will even see some familiar faces of a couple Kare coaches who also work at Pearl and all the Pearl students who are also Kare members. Did you know Kare Youth League has its very own elementary school? At Pearl Prep, we capitalize upon small class sizes and do not limit learning to the classroom. At Pearl the learning is active, hands-on and compels students to develop a sense of exploration and discovery in a family friendly Christian environment. Here is this year's graduating class!

In response to public safety guidelines all KYL activities are cancelled through the month of April. We will continue to keep you all updated on the situation and hope to open as soon as it is safe for our children. The plan for right now is to finish the baseball and softball season when we return even if we need to push that into our summer schedule. We want everyone to be safe out there!
