Washing your produce is important all year long With the poor air quality and nearby wildfires, it’s even more imperative now to make sure we are scrubbing clean any potential contaminants! Here are a few tips to help make sure your delicious farmers’ market goodies are as clean as can be: Even if you are going to be slicing or peeling the produce (like citrus or melons), wash BEFORE enjoying! Dirt and bacteria can be transferred from the knife onto the fruit!... Use a washing solution to soak your fruits & veggies for a few minutes You can find a great all-natural veggie wash at the friendly @mighty.market refill station, or try making your own at home! Use a soft brush to gently scrub firm produce (like melons) and root vegies (like beets!) Strain and rinse completely, make sure to fully dry your produce before storing! If you put your fruits and veggies away still wet, they will spoil more quickly (*Avoid washing berries and other softer fruits until right before eating, as they will spoil faster if washed before they are stored) To make your own produce wash: mix cup white vinegar and a splash of lemon juice in a large bowl of cold water!
