Modesto Police Canine Association Tax ID #: 77-0525624 PO Box 4277 Modesto, CA 95352 To our Supporters,... After much deliberation, new developments, and recent increased measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our 11th annual Crab Feed Fundraiser Dinner which had been rescheduled to August 29th, 2020. This decision was not made lightly, and took into consideration the health and safety of our supporters, volunteers, and employees who will be involved in making our fundraiser a success. We had waited until the last possible moment to cancel this, and did not make this decision lightly or un-informed. We worked closely with our venue, as well as with local rules and regulations, and had continued to hope we would be able to proceed forward with our annual fundraiser. We understand the impact Covid-19 has had on our community, and our supporters. Because of this we are offering two options for all those who still possess tickets to our event. Option 1; You can hold on to your 2020 tickets, and exchange them for tickets to our 2021 event which is tentatively scheduled for April 2021. Option 2; you can exchange the tickets for a full refund. We apologize for the inconvenience, and will honor the tickets with one of the two options above. We are very upset over this decision as well, as this is our major fundraiser of the year and the funds raised goes toward supporting current K-9’s, retired K-9’s, and the purchase of new K-9’s. We had already invested money into this years event, which we will be unable to recuperate until next years fundraiser. For any information on how to refund your tickets, or exchange for next year, please contact us via e-mail at the following; Ryan Vander Tuig - [email protected] , Kalani Souza - [email protected] , or Tyler Caldwell - [email protected] Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward too seeing you all in 2021! Today we remember our fellow K-9 partner Sgt Mike Pershall. Mike was taken from us to soon at the hands of a drunk driver. Mike’s legacy lives on through the handlers who worked with him. He was a friend, handler, and mentor to us all but more importantly he was a great husband and father. We will never forget. EOW 08-22-2017

It is with a heavy heart we must announce the passing of retired K-9 Kai. K-9 Kai passed peacefully with his partner retired K-9 Officer Graves by his side at their home. K-9 Ki proudly served the citizens of Modesto and the Modesto Police Department from 2008-2017 and is credited with multiple arrests and narcotics finds. He also was top dog with the WSPCA, and won multiple awards while competing. After his retirement, he enjoyed life with his family and especially the last two years when Officer Graves retired and spent everyday with him. Thank you K-9 Kai for your service. All dogs go to heaven. Until we meet again, good boy Kai, good boy.

Just after midnight yesterday, Fishers (Indiana) Police were involved in a vehicle pursuit when one of the suspects bailed out of the car into a wooded area. K-...9 officer Jarred Koopman and his partner Harlej(pronounced Harley) were deployed to the scene to assist in the manhunt. Harlej immediately picked up a scent, took the lead and entered the woods to track the suspect. A short time later, the officers heard a gunshot. Harlej had been shot and killed. The gunman was located and apprehended a few hours later, suffering from a dog bite to the leg. It’s believed that Harlej saved the officers on scene by locating the armed suspect and biting him before he had a chance to fire on any of the officers. The five year old Belgian Malinois had served the Fishers Police Department for the past four years and is the first line of duty death in the history of the agency. See more
