What do you do with a large 1000 pound plus animal that becomes lame? These horses still have a use besides being a pasture pal to another animal. They still can go to functions even though riding and driving may be off the table. They can be trick trained and remain a part of your life. They can do tricks before a show begins which can set the mood for a show. Another thing that you could do with the horse is turn it into a therapy horse. There are seniors in living facilities that would love very much to pet and/or brush them.

This boy has been foundered for awhile now. We have had several farriers out and they always had cut his hooves like a normal horse. We FINALLY found a farrier that knew how to do founder trims. What is a founder trim? The heels are low and the toes are short. The short toes keep from applying pressure on the laminae to prevent the inner hoof from potentially pulling away from the outer hoof. The short heels is to take the pressure off the coffin bones. The trims need to be done on about a 3 to 4 week basis during active founder.

This little lady had a lesson in closeness the other day while we waited for the farrier.
