Erik was a long time MBD team member and had recently transitioned over to McCoy as a superintendent. We are all in shock and still working to process what happenedbut we are also trying to move forward with helping Erik’s wife Robin and their two little boys Odin (5) and Indigo (3).

The wall we are showing here will have veritical floating walnut fins that will be illuminated from a light trough along the bottom of the wall. In our last post we chatted about our control like program. Here is another example of layout control that just embeds quality into a build. - These are grounds. A rip of MDO plywood that is set absolutely parallel to our axis lines on the floor and to an exact dim from our horizontal benchmark. This squares up the room and represents the face of finish - Plasters will actually use the grounds to screed their plaster from resulting in perfectly plumb and flat walls. They als...o give perfect backing for our baseboard. These are the main axis lines in the house that each of our room center lines are pulled from. These control lines, along with the horizontal benchmark allow us to lay out all of our work plumb, flat, level and square no matter how far out the structure is the building is. - This is super important in this ...house because the floors have a lot of geometric pattern. - Notice our base grounds are in. These are set parallel to the axis lines on the floor and provide a face of finish surface that all other trades can measure from. One more post about our recent project that was featured in @archdigest. - Link to article in bio - There are a lot of interesting materials and details in this build. The dark wood paneling is created with an ancient Japanese method called Shou Sugi Ban which involves charring the wood to achieve the charcoal color. This finish is offset by the rustic, wide plank, genuine European Oak used for the trim and cabinetry. We used either solids or ultra-thick veneer throughout.
