Help Westside Long Beach parkway trees get a healthy start Thursday morning. Lunch will be provided. Please let Jeff Rowe know you are participating. Tree pruning on-the-job training -- Join us Thursday 9 a.m. to noon to trim, de-weed and mulch about 20 young street trees on Santa Fe Avenue between Pacific Coast Highway and Willow Street. Pruning the trees is part of an effort to beautify that stretch of the street. We'll meet at Casa Chaskis, 2380 Santa Fe, and finis...h there for lunch. Please bring pruning clippers, a shovel and gloves. Questions? Jujube are small fruit with taste and texture similar to an apple. Dry jujube are like dates. Come for the jujube harvest during our workday Saturday, October 17th from 10 - 11:30a.m. Jujube trees are thorny. Wear long sleeves. Gardening gloves will be provided.

Yam cuttings giveaway. Volunteers will be onsite until 2p.m. vine cuttings will be placed outside the gate on the parkway. Place cuttings in water until they root, then plant in large pot or a garden.
