Vistage International has just accepted my presentation on public speaking into their Emerging Leader program.
I recently flew to Phoenix, Arizona where I was a guest speaker for the local Vistage group. I did a 3 1/2 hour seminar helping them to get over their fears of public speaking. The room was full of dynamic and successful men and women who were more than willing to participate in the exercises I set for them. Many of them made a marked progress while practicing their speeches in front of the group, and it was a privilege to work with them.
I don't know why this hasn't received more publicity, but this new fifty-foot sculpture was unveiled recently in South Dakota. It's called 'Dignity' & was done by artist Dale Lamphere to honor the women of the Sioux Nation.
In mid-August, Vistage will be flying me to San Francisco to speak to one of their groups on conquering the fear of speaking in public. If you too have a hard time getting up in front of people and speaking please message me here and let me know. I can help.
Here is the interview I did with Bill Black on ExitCoach Radio: http://exitcoach.podbean.com/?s=ron+berglas
I conducted a three-hour public speaking workshop for Vistage last Thursday. Vistage is a national organisation of CEO's and corporate executives who meet monthly in groups all over the country to support and advise each other. Their invitation to me was an opportunity to broaden and refine my theories on public speaking. In fact, the morning was successful because Vistage signed me as one of their speakers, and because two members made enquiries about booking me for their events. If you know anybody who has concerns about speaking in public, please tell them about It's Me Public Speaking. We're here to help.
Blissful Ignorance 5-22-13 When is ignorance a good thing? I know from personal experience that it is far more pleasurable to think about how much fun you’re having, or not to think at all, when you jump out of an airplane than to spend your last moments on earth, or just above it, going through every possible permutation of your impending death.... What about racists? They positively thrive on ignorance, their hatred as bilious and vile as a swine at meal time. To have their antipathy reflected back at them as in a mirror would be too difficult for them to comprehend and so better to remain locked up in their horse blanket of stupidity than reach for their unknown and unlikely salvation. Then there’s American Idol. I know I have a tendency to refer to popular television shows but, as in the previously discussed Shark Tank, American Idol brings us face to face with the impossibly deluded and downright ignorant folks whose perception of themselves is so skewed and whose take on their abilities as singers is so obviously and painfully wrong that one must wonder at how blissful their ignorance must be that they can travel immense distances just to subject themselves to talented and rational people who keep getting them so unbelievably wrong. We pride ourselves on what we know but what happens when what we know isn’t all we could know. It is so comfortable to float along on low tides of expectations than to stand upright in the bright light of objective criticism. In the end its easier for some to choose the blinkered path like those horses in Central Park who look neither to the right or left but always stare obligingly straight ahead. Everybody knows that public speaking is frightening. But sometimes the battle is not overcoming fear but rather discovering the lethargy that binds you to mediocrity. If you’ve lived a successfully blinkered life, how are you going to know you need help and to whom are you going to turn when you are finally ready to shake off the bonds of ignorance. Call 909-283-3991. It’s Me Public Speaking will help you discover your road less traveled and that will make all the difference. (with thanks to Robert Frost)
Worked with a great client last night and it was good to see that my premise: who you are, what you look and sound like are perfect so no need to be or sound like anyone else, continues to work so well. What It's Me Public Speaking does is give you the tools and confidence to speak in public. If you know anyone who worries about speaking in public, please let them know.
Isn't it time you visited my website? Go to www.itsmepublicspeaking.com, watch the videos, and then tell at least one other person. That would be fantastic!
Please feel free to read my blogs and let me know your reactions. I love to hear your thoughts and opinions. Learning how to build a business from scratch is a steep learning curve for an ex-actor who used to have everything done for them by agents. I'm not just writing on this page. I'm also listening.
Blog #3: Shark Tank is a great program. It deals with dreams, ambition, business, greed, with a smattering of blood lust thrown in for good measure. Entrepreneurs march through the mechanized doors where they are greeted with blank stares and the occasional smile by the five sharks, or rich potential investors to whom the entrepreneurs have to make their life or death pitch. Sometimes they walk back through those doors with a deal although often they leave empty handed. It’s ...Continue reading
