Lisa LeGrand’s life over the past several years consisted of her worrying about her balance and relying on walls and furniture for support. Last year, she became the first person in California to receive an advanced Deep Brain Stimulation system newly designed for people like her who have Parkinson’s disease or other movement disorders. COVID-19 Rapid Testing provided by Hoag is now available at John Wayne Airport, Orange County in Terminal B on the Departure Level before the TSA Security Checkpoint. Testing is open Monday Friday from 8 a.m. 5 p.m. to travelers as well as the surrounding community. The test costs $139 with results available within 15 - 30 minutes.

When the pandemic hit, Stephanie Rossman was put on furlough and eventually lost her job. Stress grew exponentially. But Stephanie, who has battled insomnia her entire adult life, was able to sleep at night. After completing Hoag’s six-week Behavioral Sleep Medicine Program at the Voltmer Sleep Center, Stephanie alleviated her insomnia and improved her quality of life at precisely the moment when many people were beginning to toss and turn. The first phase of a novel coronavirus vaccine trial is now underway at Hoag. This vaccine is one-of-a-kind because it delivers two proteins from SARS-CoV-2 - one that identifies an infected cell and destroys it, the other that prevents the virus from getting into the cell in the first place. This Saturday, October 24 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Bring your unwanted or expired prescription drugs to Hoag Health Center Irvine - Sand Canyon to eliminate the potential for misuse, abuse or accidental poisoning. The collection site will be located in the parking lot near the 16405 building.

Since the coronavirus reached Orange County in March, Hoag is proud to have remained on the frontlines, helping those infected. Hoag cared for the first California #COVID19 patient back in January, says Dr. Philip Robinson, medical director of infection prevention at Hoag and principal investigator of the vaccine trial. Now, under a collaboration between NantKwest, Inc. and ImmunityBio, Hoag will serve as the trial site with a goal of examining the safety, side effects, and immune system response of the two-dose prospective vaccine. #HoagPride

Today, an individual at Hoag Hospital Newport Beach became the first person to be dosed in the Phase 1 clinical trial of hAd5-COVID-19, a novel COVID-19 vaccine candidate that targets both the inner nucleocapsid ( N ), engineered to activate T cells, and outer spike ( S ) protein, engineered to activate antibodies against the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). The Phase 1 trial, under development in a collaboration between NantKwest, Inc. and ImmunityBio, selected Hoag as the trial site and is enrolling 35 healthy adults ages 18 to 55 years old with the goal of examining the safety, side effects and immune system’s response of two successive doses of the vaccine candidate.
