Through the leadership of Ori Nirpaz, President of the Students Supporting Israel Chapter at Foothill College, in proposing a resolution, Associated Students of Foothill College has adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism. The resolution to adopt the definition of antisemitism passed in a unanimous vote of 28-0! In a statement by Students Supporting Israel (SSI) at Foothill College President, Ori Nirpaz said passing this re...solution was an obligation for he and his board against the antisemitism and anti-Zionism nationwide. With help from Students Supporting Israel and Hillel of Silicon Valley, the bill was drafted in a timely fashion and was proposed just a few days later. Foothill College’s Student Government has proven itself to be a true ally by passing the bill, and I believe the other schools will follow suit in the quest to defend and protect the Jewish community. Foothill College’s student government is the first in the Bay Area to pass and adopt the IHRA definition. Foothill joins University of Buenos Aires and Arizona State University as the third SSI chapter to propose and shepherd passing of the IHRA definition. Students Supporting Israel graciously thanked Hillel of Silicon Valley, Executive Director Sarita Bronstein, Israel Fellow Yarin Yosef Shachagi, and the rest of the team for supporting and guiding their students in this effort. Hillel of Silicon Valley joins SSI in extending a Mazel tov to Ori and the SSI Chapter at Foothill College! SSI said we are so proud of the effort and will power put forth by the students at Foothill. SSI at Foothill College has shown its leadership in the worldwide fight against antisemitism by adopting the IHRA working definition. We applaud this notion, and encourage other chapters, and non-chapters to emulate the initiative led by the Foothill SSI chapter to stop antisemitism once and for all! Antisemitism is no exception to discrimination and hate, and SSI students are working relentlessly to obliterate history’s oldest form of hate.

The Addison-Penzak JCC's blog this week includes an article by our very own Sarita Bronstein discussing Hillel of Silicon Valley's response to antisemitic and anti-Israel activity on our college campuses. We are proud that we have had an impact in helping students deal with current climate on campus. Shabbat Shalom! https://rabbihugh.wixsite.com//hillel-of-silicon-valley-st

The word is that Governor Newsom could make his decision about whether or not to veto AB 1460 as early as tomorrow. Given the strong opposition to the bill from the CSU Chancellor and Trustees (see here for more info on that), there is a reasonable chance that Gov. Newsom will veto. Please consider adding your voice, if you haven’t already, echoing the call of 90-groups in this letter. We are proud that Hillel of Silicon Valley and the two Jewish student clubs at San Jose St...ate University (Jewish Student Union and Students Supporting Israel) are amongst the signers of the letter. Contact Governor Newsom via phone, (916) 445-2841 or online form email to send a message: I echo the call of 90 groups urging you to veto AB 1460, as well as call on CSU Chancellor Timothy White and the CSU Board of Trustees to institute robust safeguards against using CSU classrooms and other academic or educational spaces for politically-motivated advocacy and activism. Or simply: I URGE YOU TO VETO AB 1460. The form can be accessed here: https://govapps.gov.ca.gov/gov40mail/ Thank you again for your action on this important issue.
