We’re heartbroken to hear the news of a mass shooting at the VTA light rail yard. As we monitor the situation, our thoughts are w/ the victims, their families, & all VTA workers. These are our siblings in the labor movement, & we are here for them with love, solidarity & support.

Hate is hate. White supremacy is white supremacy. Calling it anything else just perpetuates the structural racism that puts far too many workers at grave risk every day. Just for trying to earn a living #StopAAPIHate
UC Merced let go of one of our fiercest leaders, Bertha, for voicing her concerns around the health & safety of students and workers during COVID19. We will not... allow UC to silence Bertha-- or us! #BringBackBertha! TAKE ACTION: Click the link to send a pre-filled email to Chancellor Muñoz. https://e-mailer.link/100117853946 Or Call him at (209) 228-4417 and say "As members of AFSCME 3299, we're united with Bertha. We will not stand for attack on our union leader. Bring Bertha Back now!"
Today's the day! City Council will vote this afternoon on a Right to Recall ordinance. Urge the Community Economic Development Committee (Reid, Taylor, Gallo, &... Bas) to vote YES to a just recovery for Oakland workers! Submit an E-Comment by 1pm: https://bit.ly/EcommentRTR The Right to Recall policy would require employers in the industries hardest hit by layoffs - restaurants, entertainment, tourism, and hospitality - to bring back the workers they employed before the crisis hit, prioritizing those who have given the most years of service. #righttorecall #protectoaklandworkers

Keeping The Dream Alive Dr. King’s Dream is alive. It lives when we support transgender soldiers.... It lives when teachers go on strike - not for themselves - but for their students. It lives when union workers organize to improve health care for their families...and everyone else’s. It lives when we abolish cash bail and reform standards for policing...things we did this year. It lives when we raise the minimum wage and the right to be an actual employee and not some sharecropping gig worker. It lives when we speak the truth to power and wealth... Uber, Lyft, DoorDash threaten us with their check books. What do you think will happen when we tell voters the simple truth - they don’t want to pay into Social Security. The techies who violate our privacy, pay crap wages, and don't hire or promote women or people of color...Dr. King’s dream lives because of the truth we speak to these techies. It lives on our picket lines. It lives when we vote. It lives when we write small checks to win big things. It lives when union members increase their dues and use that extra money to go the extra mile. In 1964, Dr. King went to the Berlin Wall. What he said there is just as true about Trump’s wall... On either side of this wall are God’s children, and no man-made barrier can obliterate that fact. In 2020, we will restore Dr. King’s Dream by ending Trump’s presidency. Si se Puede! Liz
On Tuesday, we were thrilled to host a discussion with California Labor Secretary Julie Su and California State Controller Betty Yee, as well as California Workforce Development Board Chairman Dr. Angelov Farooq to share their vision for California and the future of workers.
