TMR is excited to participate in #GivingTuesday. #GivingTuesday is a movement that celebrates and encourages charitable activities, volunteer opportunities and advocacy to support non-profit organizations on the Tuesday following Cyber Monday. In this time of COVID, we feel blessed we have been able to keep the doors of our little non-profit open and provide a safe place for our children to continue to express themselves through performance. While we had to move our in-studio classes back to online for a bit during this current surge, we are working hard to find new ways to provide online programing and, more importantly, continuing to provide community for all our students. The Music Room (TMR) has partnered with Mary Lauren to provide her online musical theatre camp this summer for our actors. It will run from August 10-14 and includes 5 days of singing, acting, dancing and storytelling. The campers will learn songs and dances from their favorite Broadway shows. They will work together to write a script. Friday will culminate in a live online performance. TMR’s Dance Show this year is Persevere. Aptly named since our dancers & instructors had to adapt when we had to switch to online rehearsals, which lasted for 3.5 months, followed by just 2 in-person studio rehearsals before we held our socially distanced recital. Today is Day 3 of our ‘recital.’ Each dance has a 30-minute window to stage, then perform in front of a small, socially distanced, masked audience in our enhanced studio. It took 3 days for us to be able to provide ...space for more than 60 wonderful dances. While we are sad we cannot be in a traditional theater with full audiences, we are excited that we were able to create a recital space to honor all the hard work our dancers and their instructors put in this year while still being proactive with regards to the safety of everyone involved. If you are a current TMR family, you should have received information about how we are providing online classes for our students as we move into April. We are excited to reconnect with everyone this week! Dancing, singing, and acting are great ways to help keep our actors’ and dancers’ spirit alive during these challenging times. Following the OUSD closing of their schools due to COVID-19, TMR is also closing the studio. At this time, we are planning to reopen Monday, April 6. This information was emailed to all current students on Friday. Stay healthy and continue to dance/sing at home! It is good for the heart and soul.
