"What is a wounded healer?" Defined by Javier Stauring.
One of our formerly incarcerated staff members, Genea, went out to go #HealTheVote this election. We can see her joy as she votes for the first time! As we wait for the presidential outcome, we are thankful for the passing of Proposition 17, making it so that parolees can vote in California. #ElectionDay
While Dia de los Muertos comes to an end later tonight let us remember our past loved ones. As our HDA family shares their past loved ones, join us by mentioning your loved one in our comments and lets remember while they are gone they will always remain in our hearts forever. #HDAremembers
Dia de los Muertos is a two day holiday, the altars for both these days have a small difference. Below we explain the difference between both altars. #HDAremembers
On October 27, 2020 HDA Staff and Guests had a Self Care Day. During this time they created a small Dia de los Muertos altar; incorporated in the altar is a beautiful painting of Zury and Naomi created by Christian Branscombe as a gift to the Bonilla family. #HDAremembers
Although altars are filled with many traditional items, there is also room for creativity. You could add toys, drawings, or even letters. "Letters to the Dead" are a great way to add personalization to your Day of the Dead altar. #HDAremembers
Altars are filled with traditional items that each carry significance. Above we give a short explanation, for a better understanding of the Dia de los Muertos holiday. #HDAremembers
HDA welcomes everyone to respectfully celebrate Dia de los Muertos. We will continue posting information on the holiday for those of you who wish to honor their past loved one this way. #HDAremembers
Losing a loved one in anyway is a hard thing to experience and we often find ourself wanting to honor them, some adapt their music taste or fashion sense and others will create a small memorial of them. What are ways you have commemorated your loved one? #HDAremembers
I plan on voting for the issues and candidates that offer the best paths towards Light. I feel that in this upcoming election we have many clear choices and others that require more reflection. Please join us on Tuesday to help make advocacy a part of our healing journeys.
On Tuesday Oct. 20, join us on IG Live! We will be also taking questions to help make your voting process easier. #HDA #electionday2020 #vote
