The topic of dating during a divorce is a touchy subject, but it’s a necessary one to discuss because it comes up often. Going through a divorce on its own is difficult, but when you add kids and new partners into the mix, it can get messy. The one thing you don’t want to do is put your kids in a situation where they have to deal with the pain from your divorce while also trying to make sense of your new relationship. I was quoted by U.S. News and World Report on the cost of #divorce ... definitely costly if you treat divorce as a way to attack the other party and not a business decision!

There are many ways to hear from the children without them having to testify in courtif hearing from them is even appropriate at all given the circumstances. Today I’ll discuss these alternatives and why you may want to consider them before inserting your children into the middle of your dissolution proceeding. I’ll also share important information for those who take no issue with having their children testify in court. Back when I went to #familycourt at least twice a week... I’m so grateful the #court has made the necessary changes for us #lawyers to appear telephonically, especially for the smaller hearings. I anticipate this is the new norm, at least for the foreseeable future.

How do the courts determine custody? Well, in short, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to determining what’s in the best interest of a family; when you go to court for a custodial schedule, you do so blindly because no one knows what the court will ultimately order. Today I’m sharing more about what factors the court takes into account when making its determination, and why it’s always best to try to resolve this matter outside of court first. Everyone going through a divorce needs to know how much they’ll pay or receive in spousal support. In California, we have temporary spousal support, which is when a court decides how much a party will pay temporarily. The court typically uses a program called the Dissomaster to calculate that amount. For a permanent spousal support order, the court must use the Family Code section 4320 factors. This is definitely not #California ... $15k for #childsupport for four #children is very normal in California. I know they did not get married, but I’m sure she put her life on hold for him. #familylaw And I’ll add he has a 1 year old with this new girlfriend.
