Thanks to the outstanding team at the City of Folsom - Government Parks & Recreation Department and especially Senior Parks Planner, Brad Nelson, and Parks & Recreation Director, Lorraine Poggione, for their creativity on the design of Broder Family Homestead Park. The family-friendly passive park includes a grove of olive trees that are more than a century old, a vineyard, an orchard, a covered picnic area, a kiddie cor...ral play area with farm animal sculptures, horseshoe pits, and a raised platform area for future outdoor classroom use. Granite blocks and rock retaining walls from historic structures on the original Broder ranch were salvaged and reused for retaining walls and seat walls within the park. In tribute for a career of service! Before his many years as a Folsom City Councilmember, Ernie served 33 years in the U.S. Air Force. He retired as a much-decorated lieutenant colonel, with a Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and an Air Force Commendation Medal with five clusters. Ernie led the effort to expand Folsom’s Veterans Day Parade, making it one of the regions' largest. He also spearheaded the planning, construction, and design of the city’s Veterans Memorial ...in City Lions Park.
