If you are looking for community service opportunities, here are two outstanding ways to get involved: Beautify Chula Vista This year’s 11th annual event offers two locations for volunteers to choose from: Rice Canyon at Discovery Park (700 Buena Vista Way, 91910) and Otay Recreation Center (3554 Main Street, 91911).... More than 800 volunteers are expected to turn out this year to pick up litter, clean up graffiti and remove invasive plants and weeds on Saturday, October 12, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. For more details and registration, please visit www.beautifychulavista.org. All volunteers must register prior to the event. Citizen’s Adversity Support Team Chula Vista’s CAST - Citizen’s Adversity Support Team consists of volunteers trained to provide families of trauma victims with compassionate, supportive assistance. Volunteers are trained by professionals including police officers, firefighters, psychologists, and emergency room staff. First responders summon CAST to a variety of emergency calls serious motor vehicle accidents, murders, domestic violence, shootings and fires. Since 1993, CAST members have responded to thousands of calls in the communities of Chula Vista, Bonita, and Imperial Beach. The next training session begins in January and runs through mid-April 2014. San Diego’s own B-Side Players set to headline a day full of live music and entertainment along south San Diego Bay at Chula Vista’s Bayside Park. The nine-piece band creates an energetic beat that catches the ear with multifaceted grooves inspired by Latin America, the Caribbean, Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico and Brazil, then blended with funk, rock, jazz and hip-hop rhythms. Chula Vista HarborFest is set for September 21, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at beautiful Bayside Park. This... admission-free event will feature a wide array of activities for families and friends to enjoy. New to this year’s HarborFest are the much anticipated ticketed events including a Sustainable SeafoodFest, Baja Wine Tasting and Craft Beer Garden.
