Opening Day 2019

I’ve been in Alturas for a couple of days getting ready for the waterfowl season. There are a lot of birds up there right now. I still have a couple of excellent blinds in the Sacramento Valley for lease. Contact me at benfishdog@gmail .com if your looking for a blind to hunt out of this year.

I recently discovered a really cool new product by TangleFree. It’s called the 360 solo blind. This thing folds up like an accordion for easy transport. It’s size and profile are totally adjustable and it has pockets and hooks inside. Plus a dog door. With stubble straps all around. This blind is perfect for the mobile hunter.

Spent the weekend at the California State Calling contest. Colby Stilwell won the event and qualified for the world Championships in Stuttgart Arkansas! Colby guides for me here at Fishdog Outdoors so it was really sweet seeing him take the title. Here is a photo of the winner.

Had a nice guide trip on Almanor today. 22 Smallmouth for two guys on a half day trip.

Had a nice guide trip today with two young guys from Chico and Willows. Fished Lake Almanor from 6 am till 11 am for 22 Smallmouth. Got some nice ones.

Took a trip to the Yukon to write an article for Bass Angler Magazine. They have a feature called A break from bass or some such thing. We were fly fishing for big Northern Pike and arctic grayling. Until the Pike managed to break all of our fly rods. Then we were forced to switch to topwater lures for these monsters. Aw shucks lol!!! Anyway the place was awesome! They flew my buddy Steve Dalcin and me into this remote lake in a bush plane and left us there for a week. Nobody but us on a seven mile long lake. Northern lights made sleeping difficult. So we fished our butts off. Great trip!
