I attended a zoom meeting this morning with the Incident Command team, and the Volunteer Fire Chiefs in our area that are being impacted by the fire. At this point, all evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted for Denny. With the calm winds and cooler temps, we are, at this point, at little risk in Trinity Village, and Burnt Ranch. Our neighbors to the North in Forks of Salmon have fire much closer to them, and are preparing for it to come through their communities.... Let's all send them some good thoughts, and hope the weather helps them. As always, please stay vigilant, and remember, all burning is strictly prohibited right now. If you see anyone burning, please call 911 and report it immediately. There are literally no resources available should we have another fire event. Todd Wright Fire Chief
Current Situation: Fire crews made significant progress across the fire on community and property protection efforts on September 11th. Burnout operations widen...ed and strengthened firelines on the western flank, adding critical protection to homes and residents of the Hoopa Valley wildland-urban interface. Overnight operations completed line construction on the west side along the 10N92 Road. Structure assessment and protection measures were provided in Forks of Salmon and Denny to reduce potential fire impact. Today’s staffing and operational priorities will be to contain the fire west and northwest from the 10N02 road to the Hoopa Reservation boundary, including continuation of firing operations if weather conditions are favorable. To the northeast, containment lines will be repositioned to prevent fire spread north toward Hwy 93 and Forks of Salmon. Crews will continue to construct indirect fireline, prepare for additional burnout operations, and provide direct attack where safe to do so. The fire is actively backing in Tish Tang Creek, forming alignment for potential future runs impacting cultural and resource values in the area. Fire behavior predictions suggest that once the inversion lifts today, there is the potential for fire spread in all directions. Looks like the cooler weather is helping us out. Evacuation orders for Denny have been lifted. As always, stay vigilant, and stay informed with accurate information.
I was just in contact with the Liason Officer from the Red/Salmon Complex. Denny is in fact under an evacuation order, and there is a fire less than a mile from the Miller Ranch which is North of Denny. I received a couple of phone calls from people who heard Hawkins Bar and Burnt Ranch mentioned as being evacuated over the scanner. That is not the case, Burnt Ranch School is the evacuation center, and at this time both communities are safe.
FYI to all, all burning suspended. http://kymkemp.com//cal-fire-suspends-burn-permits-in-hum/
If anyone is able to help us locate sani wipes, it would be greatly appreciated!
Congratulations to Fred Flores, the winner of our gun raffle!!! We hope you get to take some time this season and put it to good use.
The raffle has taken place, and we have our winners. I would like to to thank everyone who supported us by buying tickets, and even if you didn't purchase a ticket, but helped spread the word about the raffle, we appreciate your support. This money will go a long way in helping to outfit and train our firefighters, and make sure when the call comes in, we are prepared to respond. A very special Thank you to Steve at Stick2yourGuns for helping us facilitate this raffle. If... you haven't been to his store in Arcata, I would highly recommend going and checking it out! Also, to Terri O'Neill for helping to sell tickets, she isn't even associated with our department, but helped us tremendously, thank you so much Terri!! We look forward to doing another raffle in the future. Again, thank you everybody for your continued support. Todd Wright Fire Chief Hawkins Bar VFD
We are officially doing the drawing this Sunday, September 1st, at the Fire Hall during the breakfast. There are less than 10 tickets still available for purchase, and we would love to sell them all!!! If you haven't bought one yet, now is the time, or if you know someone who may want an opportunity to win a fantastic hunting rifle, and more importantly support your local Volunteer Fire Department, please let us know!!
You can train for everything, and still have something like this happen. At the end of the day, everyone went home safe. Adapt and overcome.
We are planning on doing the drawing at our breakfast on Sunday September 1st at the fire hall provided we sell the rest of the tickets. We are getting close, maybe 30-35 tickets remain. Don't miss out on the chance to win an exceptionally nice prize.
Don't forget wildland gear. Thank you to our community for their continued support!
Tickets are in!!! Message Todd Wright, or contact any of the HBVFD firefighters to get yours now!
