Remembering Officer J.W. Shuman - 3/1/1932

CHP 21.03.2021

On 02/25/2021, KernCATT personnel learned of a coordinated group of individuals attempting to sell stolen vehicles through an internet based site here in the Ba...kersfield area. Three trucks had recently been stolen from dealerships within the Los Angeles area and were listed for sale in Bakersfield. Through a coordinated effort, KernCATT personnel along with marked CHP K-9 were able to locate one of the stolen trucks and safely arrested four individuals. The remaining two trucks were located by KernCATT personnel, one of which had already been sold to an innocent purchaser. The four suspects were booked for numerous vehicle theft related charges. This organized group tends to deal in only cash and primarily target the Hispanic (Spanish speaking only) community. KernCATT would like to remind the community that if the deal seems to good to pass up then it probably is. See more

WHO said CHP doesn't give WARNINGS?? WE DO! CHP officers will be aggressively seeking out those violations which are the leading causes of crashes on ...State Route 41 with a "Special Enforcement Unit" today. Unsafe speed, unsafe lane changes, unsafe speed, following too closely, unsafe speed, distracted driving, unsafe speeds, DUI and, if we forgot to mention, unsafe speed will be strictly enforced. This is one of many planned operations throughout the Central Valley to help limit the number of tragic crashes, injuries and death. Please continue to drive safe and tag friend, share the post and help save a life. #warning #message #freeadvice #ticketgiveaway #freeeducation #ticketmaster #slowiscool #license #registration #proofofinsuranceplease #speedlimit #55 or #65 #gotit #buckleup #becausewecare #heretokeepyousafe @chp_centraldivision @chp_centraldivision_airops

ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE MOST COMMON COLLISION IN OUR AREA The number one cause of collisions in our area for the last seven years is a violation of 22107 of the ...California Vehicle Code. 22107 states, No person shall turn a vehicle from a direct course or move right or left upon a roadway until such movement can be made with reasonable safety and then only after the giving of an appropriate signal This is another example of that type of collision. With most cases of a violation 22107 there is usually an associated factor, like speed or distracted driving. In this case, there was a combination of both. The driver of this collision was traveling 70 miles per hour in a 55 mile per zone while diverting his attention away from the road and watching the trees as he traveled by. The driver failed to realize his vehicle drifted off the roadway subsequently causing him to lose control and collide with a power pole. Luckily, the driver only suffered minor injuries and the pole and vehicle took the brunt of the damage and no other vehicles were involved. This is a reminder that distracted driving is not only texting or talking on the phone. Distracted driving is any activity that diverts attention from driving, including talking or texting on your phone, eating and drinking, talking to people in your vehicle, fiddling with the stereo, entertainment or navigation system, anything that takes your attention away from the task of safe driving. Even under the best conditions, driving requires your full attention and your best judgment. When special conditions or hazards occur, attention and judgment become even more important. #crash #collision #CHP #CHPMerced #AvoidDistractions #Speed #LawEnforcement #WearYourSeatBelt

To swerve.... or not to swerve.... that is the question

CHP 25.10.2020

WHAT CAUSED THE COLLISION Driving while unlicensed, although not the cause of this collision, could be a contributing factor. Driving while not properly insured... probably doesn’t attribute to this collision, but still not good. So, what is the cause of this collision. If you guessed swerving for a squirrel you are correct. If this unlicensed/uninsured driver had looked over the California Department of Motor Vehicles Driver Handbook, they would have learned that if you see a stray animal in your path, you should slow down or stop if it’s safe. You should not swerve as you may lose control of your vehicle and cause an accident. This driver not only lost control of their vehicle, they also overturned into a canal. Luckily, the canal was dry at the time of this collision and the driver was able to walk away with minor injuries The mission of the California Highway Patrol is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security. #whatcausedthecollision #crash #preventable #chp #californiahighwaypatrol #collision #lucky #squirrel #driver

WHAT CAUSED THE COLLISION Stopping for posted STOP signs at the painted white limit line is the first step in avoiding a collision. You must also clear the in...tersection before proceeding through. This collision was caused by a driver who initially did the right thing, stopped at the stop sign, but failed to properly clear the intersection before proceeding and was subsequently struck by another vehicle. When approaching intersections, look both ways, even if other traffic has a red light or stop sign. Look left first, since vehicles coming from the left are closer to you than vehicles from the right. Look to the right then take one more look to the left in case there is a pedestrian, bicyclist, or vehicle you did not see the first time. And remember, some drivers do not obey traffic signals. The mission of the California Highway Patrol is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security.

THE FRUITS OF BENY’S LABOR CHP K9 Beny, probably the hardest working K9 in the California Highway Patrol, has had quite a few busts over the last couple of year...s. Many of them have been highlighted here. It’s not often we get to show you what happens after the bust. Take for instance a traffic stop that occurred in 2018. K9 Beny, along with his handler, located 32 pounds of methamphetamine. The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged, but what happened after that? We have the answer. On October 6, 2020, the suspect plead guilty to federal charges of possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute. The suspect will be sentenced in January and faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, up to a maximum penalty of life behind bars. K9 Beny, your efforts and hard work are paying off. Keep up the fantastic work. https://gvwire.com//mexican-meth-courier-busted-in-merced/ Drug Enforcement Cops Support Police K9s & MWDs CHP Central Division K-9 Cop Magazine Police K-9 Magazine Desert Snow Street Cop Training Smugglers, Inc. WHAT CAUSED THE COLLISION Is driving 70 miles per hour, less than two car lengths to the rear of another vehicle, a bad idea? The answer should be unequivocally... YES. We all know this is a bad idea and we still speed and follow too close. Case in point, the driver that caused this collision was traveling at 70 miles per hour, one-and one-half car lengths to the rear of another vehicle. When the vehicle ahead had to suddenly slow down this driver did not have enough time (due to speed) or distance (due to tailgating) to perceive the danger ahead, subsequently causing this collision. The California Department of Motor Vehicles Handbook states the following: To avoid tailgating, use the 3 second rule: when the vehicle ahead of you passes a certain point, such as a sign, count one-thousand-one, one-thousand-two, one-thousand-three. This takes approximately 3 seconds. If you pass the same point before you finish counting, you are following too closely. The mission of the California Highway Patrol is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security.
