Today, UCPD police academy trainees, Erick Benard and Tyler Cox, passed their mid-term academy inspections at the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium. Both are doing relatively well, but were reminded to continue to work hard, stay humble, and to continue representing UCPD with pride. #UCPD #UCPDFamily #Homegrown

UCPD Supports DEA Drug Take-Back Day. This weekend we staffed our lobby to support a Drug Enforcement Administration - DEA prescription drug take-back day. The goal was to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible way for our residents to discard their prescription drugs. We realize prescription drugs can be as deadly as illegal drugs to our youth. In the United States, youth abuse prescription drugs at nearly the same rate as all other illegal drugs combined; including, ...cocaine, inhalants, heroin, methamphetamines, hallucinogens, and ecstasy. This weekend’s event was a success. We collected five boxes, or about 150 pounds of prescription drugs, from members of our community. These prescription drugs will now be safely disposed of, protecting our youth and our environment. Please utilize UCPD’s prescription collection kiosk located at the front of the police department lobby for disposal of prescription drugs year-round. #TakeBackDay #UCPDCares #ProtectingOurYouth

Today, UCPD successfully implemented the department’s first AED (Automated External Defibrillator) program. The AED provides emergency treatment for Sudden Cardiac Arrest. With the help of Devices For Life, LLC (DFL), UCPD employees received training on the deployment and management of the AED. DFL will also help UCPD maintain legal compliance and periodically test the AED’s functionality. An AED has been placed in every patrol vehicle and throughout the police station to efficiently provide more services to the community.
UCPD teams up with neighboring East Bay law enforcement agencies to show support for each other during times when additional officers and resources are needed. In this case, UCPD collaborated with BART Police Department, Fremont Police Department, Hayward Police Department, Newark Police Department, California, Oakland Police Department, and San Leandro Police Department to show support for the #PinkPatchProject and Breast Cancer Awareness. Representatives from seven agencie...s came together to exchange Pink Patches of their respective police departments with one another. UCPD would like to thank all the agencies that were able to join us for this worthy cause. Special thanks to UCPD Community Resource Coordinator Crystal Raine, Pink Patch Coordinator Audrey Villalobos, and photographer Carmen Martinez for the organization and success of this event. We appreciate Starbucks at Mission/Tamarack for partnering with us to provide coffee and pastries for our exchange. #UCPD #Starbucks #UCPDgoesPink #CommunityPartnerships

The community just became that much safer. On Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020 at about 10:44 am, K9 Officer Olson was patrolling the Decoto District when he contacted a subject he knew to be on probation. It was soon revealed the subject had an active warrant for his arrest. Upon searching the subject's backpack, Officer Olson located and recovered a loaded .40 caliber Glock 23 with an extended / high capacity magazine and a box of ammunition. The subject was arrested for the gun charges and the warrant, and booked at jail. Another great investigation by Officer Olson that led to taking another gun off the streets!

National Coffee with a Cop day is a day dedicated to encourage communication and positive interactions between law enforcement agencies and the public. The day began as part of National Community Policing Week in 2016. Each year, it continues on the first Wednesday in October, furthering efforts nationwide to bridge the gap between the community and the law. We miss that we have not been able to have our regular meet-ups this year, but we look forward to drinking a cup of java with you again when it is safe to do so.
