It is with a heavy heart that The Riverside Police Officers' Association informs you of the passing of Riverside Police Detective Ronel Newton. Detective Newton succumbed to his latest battle with cancer late last night, October 14, 2020, at Kaiser Hospital in Riverside, California. Please join us in wishing Sergeant T.J. Thomas well in his much-deserved retirement after 25 plus years’ service. Sergeant Thomas started with the department in March of 1995. Over the past 25 years, Sergeant Thomas’s service in Patrol, the Criminal Investigations Bureau, the SWAT Team, the Range Program, the Gang Unit and the Special Operations Unit has been of great benefit to the agency and the Livermore community. Sergeant Thomas also took an active role in the Livermore Police Officer’s Association serving as President. Sergeant Thomas’s commitment to the community and his dedication to his peers will be missed. Congratulations T.J.!!

On August 6, 1993, Nathan Sims shot Long Beach Police Sergeant Abel Dominguez during a traffic stop. Abel was gravely injured but ultimately survived the attack. Abel suffered catastrophic injuries resulting in permanent disabilities. On November 10, 2020, Sims will be going before the Parole Board again for consideration of an early release from his life sentence. We need your help in opposing this early release. Sims has shown no remorse, nor has he taken any responsibility... for his crimes.
