Dear Clients: It is with mixed emotions I must inform you of my retirement from Belmont Heights Animal Hospital for health reasons. It has been my great pleasure and honor to have been allowed to care for your family pet(s) over the past 38 years. Although I must retire, our trusted staff will continue on at Belmont Heights Animal Hospital. Paul, Jeannie and Lauren are all looking forward to continuing to provide you and your pet(s) with the same outstanding service and quali...ty care you expect. Leading our team into the future is Dr. Jin An. He has my full confidence that he will continue the tradition of providing both quality pet care and great client service that you have all come to expect from Belmont Heights Animal Hospital. My best wishes and deepest gratitude to all of you. Sincerely, Joel Rumm, DVM A Personal Note from Dr. An. Dear Clients: Thank you for allowing me to introduce myself to you. What is canine coronavirus disease? Canine coronavirus disease, known as CCoV, is a highly infectious intestinal infection in dogs, especially puppies. Canine coronavirus is usually short-lived but may cause considerable abdominal discomfort for a few days in infected dogs. The virus is from the Coronaviridae family. The virus gets its name from the fact that when viewed from above under an electron microscope, the virus has a ring of projections that appear like a coronet, or a small crown made of ornaments fixed on a metal ring. There are many types of coronavirus, each affecting different animal species, including humans. "Canine coronavirus (CCoV) is not the same virus as SARS-CoV-2 that causes the novel coronavirus (COVID-19)."

Hope everyone is doing well.... here's our latest update: We will be open Monday thru Friday from 2 pm until 4 pm to see patients with non life threatening injuries and or illnesses.... If your pet is having a life threatening emergency, please contact VCA Lakewood or Long Beach Animal Emergency. We are asking that if your pet is due for any vaccines or routine wellness exams, that you schedule your appointment for after May 1. If your pet needs a prescription refill or you need Prescription Diet pet food please call the office and leave a voicemail and we will call you when it's ready for pickup! Alternatively, Dr. Rumm will be available to see existing patients via FaceTime or Skype for any recurring condition that your pet may have. Please be advised that Long Beach Animal Care Services will not be enforcing rabies tag requirements during this time, so with minimal exposure to other pets, your pet’s vaccinations can be done as soon as we are able to resume normal operations. Most of y'all know how to get in touch with Jeannie or me if you need anything, so reach out if you need us! Stay safe! Paul

For the safety of our clients and staff, we have made the decision to follow the State of California’s guidelines to self quarantine. However, we know how important your pet’s health is to you and we are committed to helping as much as possible. One of our staff members will be onsite daily Monday thru Friday from 3-4 pm to fill your pet’s prescription medications or Prescription diet.... Also, our telephones will be on between 2 and 4 pm Monday thru Friday. If your pet has a non life threatening illness or injury, please call and leave a message and we will return your call to set up an appointment. Alternatively, Dr. Rumm will be available to see existing patients via FaceTime or Skype for conditions that do not need immediate attention If your pet is due for vaccines or routine wellness exams, we ask that you wait until the quarantine is lifted and we have resumed normal operations. Our goal is to be fully operational as soon as we can and our priority is to make sure everyone is as safe as possible. We thank you for your understanding, we hope you and your family is healthy and we hope to see you soon!

CoVid 19 Update In this time of uncertainty and the need for social distancing, we would like to inform our Belmont Heights Animal Hospital family and the community around us how we are handling the changes at this time. We are maintaining normal business hours, Monday through Friday 8 am until 6 pm, and Saturday 8 am until 1 pm. Please know that we are doing our best to sanitize all contact surfaces in our facility before and after patient visits. Please help us by washing o...r sanitizing your hands well before entering the building. We will also refrain from shaking hands, even though we will still be happy to see you! Appointment options: a) In person exams: We will be staggering appointments to keep in person contact between clients minimal. b) Drop off exams: You may drop your pet off to be seen by the doctor and he will call you to discuss your pet’s health. c) Telephone exams: The doctor can provide a telephone exam to existing patients via FaceTime, Skype, or Google Duo. Medications: If you need medication refilled and would like to minimize contact, you are welcome to order and pay over the phone and we will deliver it out to your car when you arrive. You can also have your pets medications mailed directly to you by calling us! If you or anyone in your home has been sick or is quarantined due to concerns about COVID-19, please make other arrangements to have your pet brought in to be seen. Our staff is also aware they should stay home if they themselves become sick or have known contact with someone who may be sick. We will be doing our best to continue to provide needed care for our patients while also looking out for the health and safety of our clients and staff. Our prayers go out to those affected, to those in healthcare caring for patients, and to our nation and world as a whole at this time
