Your gut is 70% of your immune function and can even impact your mood. Your gut has both healthy and unhealthy bacteria. You need healthy bacteria to digest food and absorb nutrients. Additives and added sweeteners in processed foods alter gut bacteria to shift the ratio of healthy to harmful microbes to your detriment and weaken the gut lining, resulting in inflammation and disease. It's not too late for New Year's resolutions. They can be something you started last year and want to continue. They can be something you've never tried before and want to just go for it this year. Mine are: 1) Sober 2018. This is easy for me because I am not a big drinker and never really enjoyed it. I want to continue doing what I enjoy and letting what I don't fall off my radar. 3) 100% vegan in January. This has been somewhat tough for me, but I am trying it out to s...ee how it goes in January and if I want to continue in February. One day, one week, one month at a time. 2) 15 minutes of meditation, 5 times a week. Meditation is tough for me, so I know I need it. Not to mention that I keep hearing and reading about its benefits, including longer telomeres. And who doesn't want long telomeres? Watched What The Health for the second time. While I tend to agree with the message that processed animal products are harmful, I would go further to say that processed foods in general are harmful.
