Can you imagine only 18 days from Christmas, having the confidence of our nation completely shattered? In the dark of winter, waking up to learn that we were about to enter one of our nation’s most trying times? 79 years ago today, Pearl Harbor was attacked. Nearly our entire Pacific Fleet was decimated, and our outlook was bleak. We remember Pearl Harbor, but over the next 24 hours US forces were also attacked at Midway, Wake Island, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Malaya, and ...Guamhit after hit after hit. President Roosevelt addressed the nation just hours after the attack, not hopeless and defeated, but rather defiant and confident when he said, No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory...There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger. With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumphso help us God Our nation today is also in the dark of winter facing uncertain times. We are asked to make sacrifices for the greater good as we stand defiant against the current pandemic. But if we have learned anything from the the Greatest Generation, it is that we are resilient, we are are proud, and we can do anything when we work together. Let this day of remembrance give us hope and let us never forget!

There’s a few holidays today, to recognize. Many of you may be familiar with St Nicholas Day. This day recognizes good ole St Nick, who was a real personborn in Greece and orphaned as a child, he always had a place in his heart for children and became the inspiration for Santa Claus. In many European countries children will leave their shoes out on the night of December 5th to see if Saint Nick will bring them treats or coal. Also today, Finland celebrates its independence ...from Russia, which took place in 1917. Finally, in Ukraine, today is Army Day, much like our Veterans Day here in the US. A huge shout out to MMT who sacrificed a Saturday to keep training on track. These students didn’t just learn how to connect a missile umbilical, but also got introduced to a culture of getting the mission done! It’s this culture that has kept the Minuteman III on alert for over 50 years. Well done, MMT!!

Holidays away from home are tough, especially when we miss our family traditions. But we have Air Force traditions too. Serving Thanksgiving dinner is one of them and it’s an awesome one!

Late posting this, but last month we had the opportunity to pin a Meritorious Service Medal on our own Superintendent, MSgt Puma. She is a force of nature and keeps the whole squadron on track. Congratulations, MSgt Puma!
