February 20, 2021 What If What if you started acting like an agent of grace-looking for opportunities to love people when they least expect it and least deserve it? ~ Mark Batterson It has been a month since I penned my last blog. I had writer's block, I guess. ... So much has happened in the last four weeks, from a dozen family birthdays, including mine. Work cranking up with the start of high school sports saw my mom and grandsons enjoying golfing and ballroom dancing with my boo and our church is tackling racial injustice by having groups reading, Be the Bridge. With all that is going on and all my blessings, I want to be an agent of grace, finding opportunities to love people when they least expect it and least deserve it! #whatifpossibillities #rightchoicecoaching

November 20, 2020 Racism 2020 The100PercentLife "When you believe niceness disproves the presence of racism, it's easy to start believing bigotry is rare and that the label racist should be applied only to mean-spirited, intentional acts of discrimination. The problem with this, besides being a gross misunderstanding of how racism operates in systems and structures enabled by nice people. It obligates me to be nice in return, rather than truthful. I am expected to come c...loser to the racists. Be nicer to them. Coddle them." Austin Channing Brown People are racist, even some of my dearest friends. They don't think that they are because, in the words of Austin Channing Brown, how could we be when they are good people. Let me tell you how blacks hear racist thoughts. Regardless of your political beliefs, liberal or conservative, policies that benefit the rich or poor, there is no way you can argue that Barack Obama is like Donald Trump in any form or fashion other than they were both presidents. To compare them as similar when it comes to being dads, husbands, or businesspeople is racist. Because the black guy has a 700-page biography makes him "narcissistic," in any way comparable to Trump is racist. To try to compare any behavior of Obama to that of Trump is racist. If you wonder, then practice being an antiracist; otherwise, in the words of Austin Channing Brown, you are probably a racist! #rightchoicecoaching #The100PercentLife

October 31, 2020 The100PercentLife "Life can be easy, but it is just so damn hard" LBW The year 2020 will be remembered by most of us as one of the worst years of our life, and there is ample reason to say that. "God’s love created blacks and whites for each other in community. White supremacy is the sin that separated them in America" MLK As God-fearing human beings, I guess it is our nature to rate sin and lean heavily against things that seem to promote or allow that sin to exist. The thing that we judge is what we rank higher than others. I could easily make an argument that racism, white supremacy, the very thing that separates God's people, in church and the community is th...e most grievous sin. I could then argue that anyone who stokes racism helps grow the cords of white supremacy, especially if they are in a position of power, are committing the biggest sin against God and the church. We know God forgives all sin, except for sinning against the holy spirit. (Matthew 12:32) America's question in a little over a week comes down to how we see what we think is the worst sin. "Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law, he meditates day and night." (Psalms 1:1-2) #rightchoicecoaching #blacklivesmatter
October 16, 2020 Character Matters ""We are," he continued, "witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership." General James Mattis I had a conversation yesterday with a Christian brother and friend about politics and what evangelicals consider when picking their candidate. I was shocked when he said for him; it comes down to who represents capitalism best. WHAT? ... As Jesus' followers aren't, we called to be like him: fight for the oppressed, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, care for the widows, and protect the children. I read a prominent Christian's letter to his followers, where he said we should vote for the person who best represents our ideas, then he went on to list the 2nd amendment being the first idea we should vote to protect. WHAT? The reason character matters and that of Jesus' standing out for us believers is for us to be a great democracy. We need to have the heart to see that applying the right to bear arms is played out differently for people of color. (Let a black man legally open and carry and see if he gets treated differently than a white with all things being equal). As for capitalism, we all love the idea. We choose it over socialism; however, let's close the wealth gap, which produces inequalities in health care, mortality rate, wages, CEOs of fortune 500 companies, access to good education, etc. Until then, that's all it is. #rightchoicecoaching #blacklivesmatter
The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
October 9, 2020 No Emotional Intelligence "Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people does not even pretend to try. Instead, he tries to divide us," General James Mattis Michael Jackson has a lyric in his song, The Earth Song, where he asks, what happened to the world. Taking that line as my cue, what did happen to the world? What did black and brown people do so wrong that almost fifty percent of the country, thr...ough unconscious bias or systemic racism, flat out hate black and brown people? When you embrace a man, who does not like anyone unless they want him first, then you accept all those things that he embraces. Whether trying to prosecute five innocent black men for a crime, he knew they didn’t do, making fun of disabled people. Or, you are degrading women, accusing people from Mexico as being rapists and murders, calling people from black and brown countries as being from shit-holes, or trying to illegitimatize the presidency of our only black president. Bragging that you have done more for any person or group while the gap between that group and its white counterparts grows is not an achievement. As they used to say in my neighborhood, negro, please. #NGP #rightchoicecoaching #blacklivesmatter

By five Years Old "Success is the continuous achievement of your own predetermined goals, stabilized by balance, and purified by belief." Unkown Some experts tell us that as much as 95% of the necessary attitudes we carry with us through life are formed by the age of five. By five years of age, we have all been filled with countless don'ts. Won’t, cant's, shouldn't, wouldn't, and the like, leaving the majority of people in their most formative years with more negative at...titudes than positive ones. These negative influences eventually make their way into the playing field or workplace when we become adults. We have all heard them. "That won't work." "We can't do that." "We have never done it that way before." Negative attitudes have been around since time immemorial. What is new is the debilitating effect that negative attitudes can have on performance and business at this age when change happens at such rapid speeds. If you or your company is truly going to get results and achieve your vision in today's harsh environment, you must ensure that a process is in place that consistently transforms negative attitudes into positive ones. #rightchoicecoaching #the100percentlife #dontbeacrazyassparent
