For the skeptics and non-believers (and everyone else), this is a great article outlining the physiological effects of acupuncture and pain/inflammation. Enjoy!

http://augustpoint.wordpress.com//the-soleus-muscle-the-s/ I'm taking a Shiatsu massage class right now with an incredible instructor with decades experience in bodywork. She spoke this past week about the Soleus muscle in the calves, and how it acts as a second heart. When healthy and flexible, the Soleus works with the heart to pump blood and body fluids throughout, but when tight it can both cause severe pain in the region (and lower back) as well as circulatory issues s...uch as edema (fluid accumulation), numbness, varicose veins, low blood pressure, and many more symptoms due to restriction of vessels. What is so incredible about this muscle is that it takes little effort to bring back into balance. If you or a patient is experiencing any of these symptoms, you can have them sit on a yoga ball and rock back and forth between their heels and the balls of their feet. So if sitting at an office desk, in a classroom, or any other place, people can do this throughout the day to keep the juices flowing and current or potential symptoms at bay!

http://tv.greenmedinfo.com/the-best-result-in-relapse-prev/ Crohn's disease is an extremely complicated ailment to treat, and incredibly frustrating and debilitating for the patient. Right now it's considered an autoimmune disease, where patients go into remission, but are always considered at risk for a relapse. It's so nice to hear some positive news regarding diet and prolonged remission times (in Chinese Medicine we might say "no duh!"). While this isn't a perfect study, I like the use of plants and a minimal amount of animal based protein, and I enjoy the results even more! Enjoy :)

It's official! I'm legally covered to practice acupuncture in California (took a hot minute, but needed some time to decompress). Looking to rent space on Tuesdays or Thursdays in San Francisco, also interested in making house calls for acupuncture/massage/cupping. Woot woot! #itsawn

My Tahoe people! Getting yearly blood panels is really important for preventative health. The problem is that getting them typically requires a doctors copay or an expensive appointment fee with a Naturopath (in addition to the test fees). Solution! Tahoe Forest Health System offers specifics dates when you can just show up and get blood drawn solo. Once you have your results, come see your local acupuncturist to review (me!), as our ranges are narrower than western standards, and we can work to bring them back to healthy levels through diet and lifestyle changes (mostly)

This is a really great list to consult when choosing between organic and non-organic produce. While it would be amazing to eat organic at all times, it's unfortunately expensive and not fit for all budgets. On a similar note, http://www.ewg.org is an awesome website where you can type in the names of products everywhere from foods and skincare lines to household cleaning items and get a score. Keeping our bodies and homes free from toxic chemicals/pesticides/hormones is growing harder but not impossible, it's important to be educated!
