‘Tis the season for Nabeyaki Udon. Today, a new version with head on wild shrimp, lingcod satsumaage and scallop and onion kakiage tenpura. And hot spring eggs and komatsuna and green onion.

Chikuzen-ni will be one of the big projects for the Osechi Bento. Today on the menu: sweet simmered root vegetables and chicken with lotus root, konyaku, shiitake, Nantes carrots, daikon and gobo root with rice.

Before I opened Rintaro, I had a catiering company called Peko Peko. Our biggest project of the year was the New Year’s Osechi bento. I would make the boxes with my father, and then we would cook for a week straight to make all the elements. Most of the foods were traditional Osechi foods meant to last and to bring good luck in the new year. This year, with Shelter in Place, we will be doing it again. The menu will be our most ambitious ever. We will be making 60 two box sets. They go on sale at 2:00 today on RESY. @ayabrackett

Nabeyaki Udon Kits are back on the take away bento menu. With charcoal grill Sonoma Liberty Duck, chicken tsukune, Rintaro satsumaage, onsen tamago, chrysanthemum greens and, of course, hand-rolled udon. This one was cooked in my family’s old Mongolian hotpot, but any pot will do.

On the menu this weekend: super honmaguro from San Pedro, hand-rolled udon, @oyatsuya.sf soufflé cheesecake and all the fish cakes in the oden. We are fully booked tonight in the courtyard and on the sidewalk tonight, but plenty of bento available, including the Deluxe Temakizushi Handroll set with that excellent tuna.

Order directly from @montereyfishmarket by midnight tonight for pickup Wednesday in the courtyard during our regular service hours. A box of the fish in the photo will be $45. Mt. Every once in a while, I’ll make something that I’m really proud of. Today is one of those days. Here’s a Bartlett pear and Concord grape kanten jelly. I impatiently waited two weeks for the @penrynorchardspecialties pears to ripen to creamy. We’re also in peak grape season, and I used some of the Concords growing in my back garden and a bottle of rosé. Serving with creme anglasie for a bit of richness. Available in the courtyard and on the bento menu.
