William Scott predicted this historic outcome back in 2019! We are so thrilled to witness the first female, first Black, and first South Asian person elected to the White House (AND a Bay Area native!). William said of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' victory: "Joe Biden will bring healing to the people." Swipe to see the full image! #WilliamScottCG

It has been amazing to witness a record-breaking voter turnout during this crucial election. It was a challenging week, so we wanted to end it by sharing this work by Creative Growth artist Gail Lewis. Made on election night, this piece depicts an astro cat riding through space on a cup and saucer. Gail, an avid voter who, like many of us, was on the edge of her seat waiting for results, said I know everybody was talking about the election, but I wasn't feeling well that nightI think it was the nervesso I was doing art instead. #GailLewis [Image description: a drawing of an orange tabby cat wearing an astronaut helmet sitting in a white cup with red lines on top of a saucer. The background is blue with lines of yellow stars filling the top half.]

"I think that's freaking awesome. I love that. I love my videos. I'm ready for more video action, put me in the spotlight. I do it all for the love of art. I love it so much, I could do it forever." #SusanJanow is pumped on her original videos "Questions?" and "Answers" being shown at the Brooklyn Museum's Art on the Stoop series! We missed celebrating el Día de los Muertos at Oakland Museum of California this year. Since 2018 we have installed collaborative ofrendas (altars) honoring our loved ones who have passed for OMCA's annual event. Images 1-5) "Tree of Life" altar representing the four cardinal pointsnorth, south, east, and west. Designed by #JuanAguilera each direction is represented by a different color with a portal for spirits to enter. Artists then added "tunnel" books dedicated to ...loved ones and installed onto the tree. Images 5-10) "Imprints" altar made up of fabric sun prints of pictures and letters to loved ones who have passed away. The fabric panels mimic papel picado traditionally used in altars and were assembled into a tunnel to create a passage for visitors to travel through while being surrounded by all of our loved ones. We created a path with candles to guide the spirits to our tunnel. The flowers represent marigolds (cempasúchitl, flower of the dead). See more

This is the last week the make a private viewing appointments for 'The Rainbow Two,' which closes November 6th! Click the link below to reserve your spot. https://calendly.com/creative-growth/the-rainbow-two SFMoMA curator Nancy Lim on Nicole Storm: "There’s such a freedom to the way she works and to the immediacy of these transmissions of her environment, her conversations, her thoughts, her interactions. All of that pouring into her drawings, like an archive being mad...e in real time." 'The Rainbow Two' celebrates Nicole and Ron Veasey's work in the Creative Growth Studio for several decades. One artist maintains an abstract practice, the other figurative, yet both have developed highly skilled artistic voices and advanced modes of expression that push the viewer to reconcile preconceived ideas of process, content, and context. #NicoleStorm #RonVeasey See more

There's just a feeling about them. I’m trying to capture movement and gesture, rather than exactness... I get bored drawing with my regular hand. It always comes out predictably. Using the other hand, there’s always something to be discovered. The figures in #CarrieOyama paintings are either taken from photographs or her imagination and memory, and are often executed with her non-dominant hand. Carrie possesses a rich artistic background, having majored in fine arts at the... School of Visual Arts in New York in the late 1960s. She was also involved in the Pedestrian Art Movement in New York and participated in performances at the Whitney Museum and Judson Church before moving to Berkeley in 1979. I do feel like I have grown over the years at Creative Growth as an artist, Aguilera said. The community, the teachers have taught me a lot of things. A lot of what I do now is thanks to my teachers. Thanks to The Daily Californian for their feature on Creative Growth artist #JuanAguilera

Some amazing recent work by #JohnMartinCG #LarryRandolph #MayraGonzalez #RosenaFinister and #DianaLo Creative Growth was founded in 1974 on the belief that everyone has the ability to express themselves creatively, and the right to access the means of creative expression. During this time of sheltering in place, Creative Growth has launched virtual programs for more than 150 artists, in an effort to maintain the artistic facilitation and sense of community previously offered in our Oakland Studio.
