Contemplatives of Saint Joseph 30.10.2020

Thursday, October 29, 2020 is a Feria of the Fourth Class. Instead of the resumed Mass of the Twenty-First Sunday after Pentecost, however, the Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit will instead be offered: Votive Mass of the Fourth Class; Color of the Day: Red; Proper Mass; no Gloria; no Credo; Preface of the Holy Spirit.... Public Mass at noon today. COLLECT O God, Who on instructed the hearts of Your faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit: grant unto us, by that same Spirit, to understand what is right, and ever to rejoice in His consolation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the same Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. LESSON Acts 8: 14-17 In those days, when the Apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samar'ia had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit; for the Spirit had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit. GOSPEL John 14: 23-31 At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: If a man loves Me, he will keep My word, and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me. These things I have spoken to you, while I am still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. You heard Me say to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced, because I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place, you may believe. I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over Me; but I do as the Father has commanded, so that the world may know that I love the Father. POSTCOMMUNION May the infusion of the Holy Spirit, O Lord, cleanse our hearts, and render them fruitful by the inward sprinkling of His dew. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the same Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Monday, October 26, 2020 is a Feria of the Fourth Class with the Commemoration of St. Evaristus, Pope and Martyr. Instead of offering the resumed Mass of the Twenty-First Sunday after Pentecost, we will instead celebrate the feast of St. Evaristus: Feast of the Fourth Class; Color of the Day: Red; Mass from the Common of Holy Popes; Gloria; no Credo; Common Preface or Preface of Martyrs.... COLLECT O Eternal Shepherd, regard Your flock with graciousness, and sustain it with Your constant protection, by the intercession of Blessed Evaristus, Your Martyr and Supreme Pontiff, whom You have appointed Pastor of the whole Church. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. EPISTLE 1 Peter 5: 1-4, 10-11 Dearly Beloved: I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ as well as a partaker in the glory that is to be revealed in time to come. Tend the flock of God that is your charge not by constraint but willingly, not for shameful gain but eagerly, not as domineering over those in your charge but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd is manifested you will obtain the unfading crown of glory. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will Himself restore, establish, and strengthen you. To Him be the dominion for ever and ever. Amen. GOSPEL Matthew 16: 13-19 At that time: When Jesus came into the district of Caesare'a Philip'pi, He asked his disciples, Who do men say that the Son of Man is? And they said, Some say John the Baptist, others say Eli'jah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets. He said to them, But who do you say that I am? Simon Peter replied, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered him, Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in Heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My Church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven. POSTCOMMUNION Be appeased, we beseech You, O Lord: graciously to govern Your Church, which You have nourished with this heavenly repast, so that, directed by firm guidance, she may progress in liberty, and persist in the integrity of religion. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Tuesday, October 20, 2020 is the Feast of St. John Cantius, Confessor: Feast of the Third Class; Color of the Day: White; Mass of the Feast; Gloria; no Credo; Common Preface. Public Low Mass at Noon today... COLLECT Grant us, we beseech You, O Almighty God, by the example of St. John, Your Confessor, that in making progress in the knowledge of the Saints, and showing mercy to others, we may, through his merits, obtain Your pardon. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. EPISTLE James 2: 12-17 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty. For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy; yet mercy triumphs over judgment. What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works? Can his faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and in lack of daily food, and one of you says to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled, without giving them the things needed for the body, what does it profit? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. GOSPEL Luke 12: 35-40 At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: Let your loins be girded and your lamps burning, and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the marriage feast, so that they may open to him at once when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes; truly, I say to you, he will put on his apron and have them sit at table, and he will come and serve them. If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants! But know this, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would have been awake and would not have left his house to be broken into. You also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. POSTCOMMUNION Nourished with the delights of Your Precious Body and Blood, we humbly beseech Your clemency, O Lord, that by the merits and example of St. John, Your Confessor, we may be made imitators of his charity and sharers of his glory. Who lives and reigns with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Monday, October 19, 2020 is the Feast of St. Peter of Alcantara, Confessor: Feast of the Third Class; Color of the Day: White; Mass from the Common of a Confessor not a Bishop with proper Collect and Epistle; Gloria; no Credo; Common Preface. Public Low Mass at noon today... COLLECT O God, Who did vouchsafe to make blessed Peter, Your Confessor, glorious by imbuing him with a wonderful spirit of penance, and bestowing upon him the gift of the most lofty contemplation; grant us, we beseech You, through his interceding merits, that by mortifying the flesh, we may the more easily apprehend the things of Heaven. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. EPISTLE Philippians 3: 7-12 Brethren: Whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as refuse, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own, based on law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and may share His sufferings, becoming like Him in his death, that if possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me His own. GOSPEL Luke 12: 32-34 At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give alms; provide yourselves with purses that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. POSTCOMMUNION We beseech You, Almighty God, that we who have received Heavenly sustenance may, through the intercession of Blessed Peter, Your Confessor, be defended thereby against all adversity. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
