Official statement on Kenny Washington Memorial Game X... Due to the "no spectators" restrictions placed on the limited Spring 2021 LHS Varsity Football season, KWMG X will be moved to the Fall 2021 season. This has been a challenging time for all and the KWSF Board hopes everyone stay vigilant and healthy as we navigate the worst public health crisis in our lifetime. Rest assured, Game X is going to be a celebration for all of us.... A BIG celebration!! Stay safe until then. See more

When the LHS Modernization Plan was unveiled over a year ago, there were no planned improvements to the athletic infrastructure. Nothing was going to be changed on the hill. As a direct result of the Kenny Washington Stadium Foundation’s recommendations and advocacy, the revised $233 million dollar LHS Modernization Plan that was approved on Tuesday by the LAUSD Board now includes: the renovation of our historic tennis courts, a new permanent concession stand, a new field ho...use, a new batting cage, extensive renovations to the gymnasium and finally, permanent toilet facilities for spectators. Boardmember Moníca García and her staff was instrumental in seeing that our recommendations were included in the final plan for our school. But the Modernization Plan fell short of our ultimate goal of bringing a field to Lincoln High School. For years, we researched various artificial surfaces for both the track and field and ultimately found that a state-of-the-art installation of a new track and athletic field was estimated at $2 million dollars (far below the District’s internal estimate). While we argued with the District that this was less than 1% of the modernization budget, they continued to claim this could not be included in the over $233 million dollar budget due to funding restrictions. With all of the campus upgrades, our 89 year old track and athletic field was not going to be touched. That’s when Councilmember Gil Cedillo stepped up to the plate. Responding to the desires of the Tiger alumni and school community to see a state-of-the-art athletic field and running track included in the modernizing of Lincoln High, Councilmember Cedillo introduced a motion to the City Council which procured the estimated $1.5-$2 million dollars needed for the installation. Based on the rationale that the new surfaces would be valued community resources, the motion was passed. Our 10 year funding advocacy for a new Andrus Field at Kenny Washington Stadium has been fulfilled. We owe a debt of gratitude to both Boardmember Moníca García and Councilmember Gil Cedillo. Both came through for our school and community. Both displayed what true leadership is. To all of you who supported our organization and the annual Kenny Washington Memorial Game, thank you! We’ve been on a long journey together so far and there is still so much more to do. Lincoln Tigers, It’s Going To Happen!!!
Meeting Alert! An online meeting will be held this Wednesday at 6:00pm to discuss the three mural proposals for the Spring Street bridge facing Downey Playground. One of the murals would include Los Angeles Ram Kenny Washington, Los Angeles Dodger Robert Babo Castillo, and gold medal Olympians Frank Lubin and Fidel La Barba - four Lincoln High School sports legends. The public is invited to attend the virtual meeting online via ZOOM. Please see the attached graphic. This is a chance to have our voice heard on the mural selection and honor our Tiger legends. Please join us in advocating for this important mural selection. PLEASE SHARE
