Venus Series Paleolithic Venus figurines are often thought to be among the earliest surviving examples of prehistoric art. Nothing is known definitively about the purpose of Venuses of Willendorf, of Hohle Fels, of Lespugue. All we know is that these figurines depict female form and as such they were often interpreted from the traditional perspective as symbols of fertility. That is until two researchers, Catherine McCoid and LeRoy McDermott, proposed that Venus figurines m...ay be created by women as a self-portraits, as an explorations of their feminine nature and changes that it undergoes during the course of life. Venus Series unapologetically affirms this theory. It is an exploration of the idea of femininity in all its multiple forms done by a woman artist. It is an attempt to try on different understandings of what it means to be a woman. Some of these meanings fit naturally, some of them feel foreign, some are difficult to comprehend. Yet all of them are connected with one another and together reflect female nature in all its complexity. Venus of the Future focuses on the ability to create life. An undeniable part of the experience of a woman that is assigned to her without discussion or negotiation. A burden and a magical gift all at once, it is the aspect of female nature that brings about the future of humanity. It creates the strongest emotional bonds and the most profound heartbreaks. Venus of the Present is affirming the sensual aspect of being a woman. Symbolically, the female form is the essence of beauty and love. It is the focus of desire and a superpower. Yet nothing in our world is without a shadow: Beauty and love co-exist with dark, dangerous, and wild forces, guided by nature and its tyrannical demands for survival and procreation. Venus Series Another inspiring work that I did in 2020 is the Venus Series. Venus Series includes three sculptures: Venus of The Future, Venus of The Present and Venus of Naples. Inspiration behind Venus series lies in Paleolithic Venus figurines as a self-portraits done by women, as explorations of their feminine nature and changes that it undergoes during the course of life.... Creation of these sculptures was transforming as the work itself. www.anamariagower.com

Angel of Death II Description: When the Angel of Death spreads his wings over our daily lives, our homes, over children and adults, over our dreams and our expectations, we lose our place in the world. All we have left is a cold truth: we are fragile and can disappear from this Earth in a moment. The Angel of Death leaves, but this truth remains. In the world filled with conflict, we should never forget that we are all equally vulnerable in the face of death. I hope that this... simple truth will be the source of empathy and love. Angel of Death II I would like to start my 2020 retrospect with the painting that is very personal to me. Angel of death II is my second painting that commemorates the bombing of Belgrade, my hometown in 1999. The first painting, Angel of Death I, was created in 2019. Working on this painting gave me the way out of the whole craziness that we were constantly surrounded last year.... I was using a new technique to give it more texture, this included hay spraying and some wood chopping too. Above is shown the process of creating this piece. www.anamariagower.com
