We love watching our skaters grow! When I was little, I watched the movie Inside Out. After watching it, I asked my mom if I could do ice skating. My mom didn’t know if there was any ice rinks in San Francisco so she googled it and found Yerba Buena Ice Center. When we went there, I told my mom that I wanted to learn ice skating, so she enrolled me. This picture was taken during my first skating school. It was very hard for me but I wanted to skate and my dream had come true! And now, all the efforts count and skating has become part of my life. I hope I can get back on the ice soon! Proud to have Maggie skate with us! #adultsskatetoo Maggie Harding started skating when she was 10 years old. "It was on a school field trip to Legg's Ice Rink in San Francisco. My parents didn't allow me to go on the first day, but my brother went, and when he returned, he gushed about it, so they allowed me to go on the second day. I fell lots! I grabbed one of the chaperones from behind and knocked him down onto my back with him on my belly! They had me sitting at in ...the lobby "resting" while everyone else was still having fun. I went back out and had a great time (although I learned to never grab someone from behind!). Shortly after, we moved out to the Sunset district of SF. We discovered an ice rink out in the avenues, closer to where we lived. We started going there on the weekends whenever possible. I was a rink-rat. In the mid 1990's I heard about the USFS adult skating programs. I started skating again. I hired my first skating coach and started testing in the adult track. In 1997, I entered my first ever skating competition (remember, I was a rink-rat and had never competed as a kid/teen). I was hooked! I had found my passion for skating again. It was also then that I needed to look for another career. I wanted a career that I could love what I do and help others, too. I was always interested in how the body works and moves. I didn't want to be a skating coach because I didn't want skating to be my "work". Skating was/is my passion and my way to release tension from a stressful job. I went back to school and got a degree in Kinesiology: Exercise and Movement Science. Being a certified personal fitness trainer has allowed me to continue with my passion and my way to release tension from life's stresses... that is skating. I feel fortunate to get paid to do what I love to do, and now I get paid to play. It also keeps me fit, and now I help others keep fit off-ice, too." Maggie landed her first double jump in her late 30s. She served as the Adult Skating Committee Chair from 2002-2005. "I learned that there are a lot of very talented adult skaters among us! I think I'm proudest of coordinating and getting the 'toe-pick' medal created. See more
