Vista Farmers Market 31.01.2021

Vista Farmers Market NEWS - January 2021 Will The Market Be Open? The Vista Farmers Market is OPEN tomorrow, in whatever weather. The prediction is a small amount of rain ... 2/100s per hour, and only a 60% chance of that! We will be there. As the climate changes, we hope you will adjust too. ... Bundle up and we will see you at the market. The Market will be open every Saturday in 2021, except on December 25th. Changes at the Market For the time being, the book exchange is closed (and we are not taking any books either please), and we will not be putting out tables and chairs. When the pandemic lessens or stops, we will return to these services. Plastic Removal Continues The plastic sleeves around flowers are no longer offered at the Vista Farmers Market. You will either see paper sleeves (returnable too) or none at all. Our goal to reduce plastic at the market has eliminated over 85% of the plastic packaging. Farming is challenging, any time. Add water costs, restrictive regulations, weather, pests, and now climate change. Pandemic supply chain disruptions. (The more local YOUR sources, the harder to disrupt. Your sources of food, supplies, and all.) The warm January weather, and likely cooler (?) February will confuse and harm some plants and animals. The loss of 75% of the insect life, and the connected loss of birds, will have an effect on pollination and much more. It makes our communities stronger to have farmers and makers, and markets for farmers and makers, thriving. We do our part, you do your part. We must all address the short-term and long-term needs of keeping food on our tables, sharing with our neighbors, and building our local resilience. This Vista Market The Vista Farmers Market has been going for 39 years, as the first Certified Farmers Market in the county, and one of the first in the state, it has been an example for other markets in Southern California. The market is open every Saturday - - - except every seven years we are closed on December 25th (as in 2021) . We are open in the rain, earthquakes, floods, winds. We are open on Saturday. From 8 am to 12 noon. At 325 South Melrose Drive, Vista, California 92081. Located just South of Highway 78, at the County Courthouse. Come out and support farmers and makers (including foodmakers).

farm fresh milk comes to the Vista market "Claravale Farm milk (cow and goat), and raw cream and raw cheese are now available at the Vista Farmers Market. You'll love Claravale milk! I ended up distributing it after going through chemo and changing my diet --- a friend sent me to a class where the guy teaches about optimal health, and he mentioned Claravale. Once I tried it, I never looked back! Please let me know if you have any questions & thanks for your help! Looking forward to meeting you all at the Vista Farmers Market! ----- Jonathan"

Vista Farmers Market NEWS August 2020 ----------------------- New Participants... We are slowly adding makers and farmers in diverse areas so that we have more products you might want. We added a new beverage maker last week, look for them on Beverage Lane. We expect a new hot food maker (or two). A possible new farmer too. Keep you eyes and ears open for things to try. ----------------------------------- Still need to complete your 2020 Census Survey? Visit the 2020 Census Booth at Vista Farmers Market or go online to www.2020Census.gov. Be counted and support your community to receive needed funds for schools, seniors, veterans, representation in Congress and much more. Don’t wait; only a few weeks left to make a difference in San Diego County. ------------------------------ Sustainable Santa Working with Farmers to Encourage Eating REAL FOOD The Vista Farmers Market is teaming with the Sustainable Santa Foundation in an effort to highlight the importance of the nutritional and immune system boosting value of the healthy REAL FOOD available for purchase at our market. The Foundation has concluded that the missing piece among the many defensive efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 is the "offensive" piece of promoting eating healthy real food which both boosts your immune system - thus making it more likely to survive COVID-19 --- PLUS "eating healthy" is a major step in eliminating all those "Underlying Health Conditions" associated with all the COVID-19 infection, hospitalization, and death statistics. The Foundation is working with individual farmer vendors to produce informational posters highlighting the immune system boosting value(s) in what that farmer sells. Sustainable Santa, who has been the Santa at our market for the past five years, will be available every Saturday to work with farmers wishing to participate. Here's an article about it -- https://thecoastnews.com/commentary-health-official-farmer/ ------------------------- Thank You for Supporting the Vista Farmers Market and the Participating Farmers and Makers The Vista Farmers Market was the first Certified Farmers Market in the County, one of the first in California too, begun in 1981. It is the only market in the county that has stayed open every week, every Saturday in 2020. We expect to be operating for another 38 years or so. The market is open at the County Courthouse parking lot, shaded by solar panels, at 325 South Melrose Drive, Vista, California, USA --- every Saturday from 8 am to 12 noon. Come out and find local farmers, and local food makers, and many of your neighbors. Please wear a mask [and pants (or equivalent)].

Masks thank you for continuing to wear them at the market, and remember to disinfect them occasionally (warm water and soap, or a bleach solution . . . a little bleach with lots of water disinfects better than stronger bleach mixes). And remember to keep social distancing at the market.

The Practical, Sustainable Life Green Your Kitchen Ten Savvy Tips to make your cooking space more environmentally sound (TIME magazine Sustainability Special Edition -- recommended.)... 1/ Grow Your Own Herbs. This cuts down on plastic packaging and gives you fresh herbs. Try starting with mint, thyme, oregano, and parsley (or pick your favorites) 2/ Know When to Use Cloth Using lightweight cotton or linen conserves paper towels. Cloth towels are inexpensive, and wash and dry quickly. 3/ Consider Composting At home (inside or out), with a neighbor (chickens would love it!), or at a local community garden. We need to build/rebuild soil everywhere. 4/ Boil Smarter Use less water when you boil vegetables and pasta. Even better to steam your vegetables. If you boil pasta, use the water for sauces, and use vegetable water to water plants. 5/ Think Small A pressure cooker can save energy and time. The smaller area of a toaster oven or microwave can save energy over using the oven. 6/ Maximize Oven Real Estate When you do use the oven, cook more than one dish, reserving some for future meals. 7/ Go Glass Marinate and store foods in glass containers rather than plastic bags. 8/ Break Down Casseroles Cooking many small dishes uses less energy than one big dish, also easier to handle, and makes some for the future. 9/ Stop Peeking Opening the oven door to check . . . can drop the temperature 50 degrees wasting energy. 10/ Wash Without Worry Make your own grease-cutting cleaner from warm water, fresh lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of baking soda, mix well, until soda dissolves. Can use in a spray bottle. Skip the antibacterial cleansers -- chemicals are probably bad for you and they create bacterial resistance.

I have been searching for, and finding, groups and people who are working to make the world a better place. I have recently been delivering fruit for Lived Experiences. It's a local group that has been serving over 400 families on a consistent bases twice per week. They want to expand a little, and want to raise $5,000 for a trailer to handle more food. I support them, and hope you will consider it too. vista market updates 1/ We need you to keep wearing a mask at the market, if you need more, we have two mask makers at the market. Almost everyone is doing a VERY good job of having and wearing a mask.... 2/ The Vista Farmers Market is OPEN this Saturday, just like every Saturday so far. 3/ Parking will get even better in a few weeks, once the nearby solar installation is done (and the fences come down.) Small secrets -- lots of parking by turning right as you drive in to the courthouse (by the law library), and there is a little extra parking at the furthest end of the parking lot (drive along the buildings and keep going past all the fencing.)
