With new modern cars. You do not wanna change your oil viscosity as it gets older. Stay with what the manufacturer recommends. If it doesn't recommend synthetic do not use synthetic. Modern vehicles are engineered to use a specific oil. Oil must flow easier in New vehicles. Stay with the oil your vehicle manufacturer has recommended.
