Jeff Batchman November 19, 1942 November 12, 2019 It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our founder Jeff Batchman. Jeff founded Exeter Engi...neering on February 1, 1978, along with the company’s first employee Jack Bedwell. Jack is still with Exeter Engineering along with many other long-term, and faithful employees. This is a testament to Jeff’s vision; take care of our employees and they will, in turn, take care of our customers. With over 40 years experience, Jeff’s professional life was certainly dedicated to the fresh produce industry. Jeff’s chief focus for Exeter Engineering was to develop & produce fresh handling machinery that was built well, utilizing ever changing technologies that were useful and made sense. In short, make and design something that he would be proud to say he built and the customer proud to say they owned. His vision and dedication to its execution has resulted in equipment installations throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and a dozen other countries throughout Europe, South America and Asia. Jeff never was one to sit idly by watching the industry. Throughout his career Jeff continually pushed the research and development of new products and the continual improvement of existing machinery. Under his guidance the company’s offerings have gradually increased into the root crop, vegetable and fruit sectors, thus laying the foundation for future growth. Over the last several years Jeff turned over the day to day operations of the business to Boomer Batchman and they have put together a strong management team dedicated to the pursuit of Jeff’s vision and continuation of his legacy. In closing, Jeff enjoyed life, as many who knew him would eagerly attest. Of utmost value to him were his family, friends and the many, many relationships he developed over the years with his customers. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 (Jeff’s 77th birthday) at 11 am the First Presbyterian Church, 215 N. Locust St., Visalia CA with reception immediately following at the Southern Pacific Depot, 207 E. Oak Ave., Visalia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent via check (P.O. Box 457, Exeter, CA), or online at GoFundMe.com to the Jeff Batchman Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship has been established to further Jeff’s interest in providing financial assistance to local students interested in pursuing careers in engineering, mechanics and agricultural related fields.
