November 7, Sunday, 11:00am Of all the days celebrated near November 1, my favorite this year is the Day of the Christian Martyr. It's less vague--and for some, less spooky--than most of the other holidays. On that day many churches worldwide commemorated the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP). We and others are commemorating it this Sunday. Continuing in 1 Kings and the Old Testament historical books, we'll look at the later years of King Solo...mon's reign (10:14-11:40) and lessons for each of us. The early years of King Solomon's reign, considered the golden age of Israel, is recorded in chapters 3-10. I feel it's God's timing that we're reading in 1 KIngs with Election Day this week. What we learn from Solomon's reign has lessons for government and society in our day.
