Today’s Wednesday bus trip was a picnic lunch at Dinosaur Caves Park in Pismo beach! Residents were able to escape the heat and enjoy a nice, cool ocean breeze as they enjoyed a declious lunch prepared by our kitchen. Several residents decided to take a stroll to get a better view of the calming ocean. We sure are blessed to live on the Central Coast!

Today’s Friday performance brings Les Beck and his keyboard! Performing hit songs from the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s, Les sure knows the way to our residents heart; that’s amore!

Rick Jarrett was back today for this monthly performance, and this time with a special twist! As COVID continues to decrease, our fun activities continue to INCREASE. We have been so excited to start to reintroduce activities that we had to go without during the pandemic. One activity we have missed has been our birthday parties. Today, all of our June birthdays were honored at the performance as all residents in attendance enjoyed chilled champagne or apple cider and gourmet crackers and cheese to celebrate! *fast forward to the end if you would like to get a taste of Rick’s musical performance today

As we all settle back into our weekly routine today, let us remember what this long weekend was for: Memorial Day Locals Alexis (3rd grade) and brother Curtis (5th grade) assisted us in providing our residents with a token to help them fully embrace what Monday was all about. Residents received a flag with the following note attached: Join The Villages as we take today to remember and honor our heroes. Today we express our gratitude and pay homage to the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Let us remember and honor those who courageously gave their lives for our freedom. Let us use today to count our blessings and stand proud as we salute our fallen and give thanks on this Memorial Day.

Yesterday’s Wednesday bus trip was to the absolutely stunning Sculpterra winery located in Paso Robles. We brought with us some yummy lunches made by our kitchen and purchased bottles of wine from Sculpterra to go around! Residents enjoyed their picnic with friends as they soaked up the beautiful summer weather and scenery. After lunch, residents were free to roam around and check out the amazing sculptures located around Sculpterra’s beautiful grounds.

World class violinist Brynn Albanese is here this Friday with a variety of music! From classical pieces to smooth jazz, her passion for violin always shines through and helps brighten the days of our residents.

Here’s a clip from this past Monday of the wonderful Rick Jarrett! Rick displayed his beautifully wide vocal range, hitting notes high and low. He sure had residents snapping their fingers along to his music.

As the 2020 holiday season comes to an end, we would like wish everyone happy holidays one last time. Here’s a look at our beautiful lights that have been shining bright around our campus since the begging of December, and will remain up until January 6th. Thankfully we were able to hold a Light Up The Villages event before our city reentered the purple tier earlier this month. Our Christmas celebration included hot cocoa, eggnog, Dickens Carolers, and even a special visit from Santa Clause himself! Residents were able to safety visit with one another outdoors as they enjoyed the sights, smells, tastes and sounds of Christmas . May the new year be filled with good health and fortune for all! Fingers crossed for a MUCH better year to come!

Local Julie Beaver is kindly spending Christmas Eve with us today! If you listen closely you can hear residents singing and humming along to this famous Bing Crosby toon. Some residents were able to get some practice in yesterday from watching White Christmas in our living room. Thank you for spreading the Christmas spirit, Julie!

We are feeling the spirit of Christmas today thanks to talented volunteer group Cross Traffic! Cross Traffic is an accalpella chorus group that has been performing together for over 10 years. Residents of The Villages look forward to their annual Christmas show performance as their talent is truly remarkable! *all members of the group had masks readily available to wear during transition periods from courtyard to courtyard. Residents were required to wear masks during the performance and maintained well over a six feet distance from the group while they were performing.

Rain, wind, or shine, our music performances will continue! Residents haipply endured a little wind yesterday as they enjoyed the company of one of our favorite music performers, Rick Jarrett.

Residents received an extra special treat this week concerning our music performance. Les Beck has been here two days in a row, performing for two courtyards yesterday and three courtyards today! This allowed for longer performance times, giving residents a full 40 minutes of wonderful music entertainment. Residents sang along to Les’ personal renditions to popular hits ranging from the 20’s to the 90’s! Thank you, Les!

On September 25th San Luis Obispo Wind Orchestra generously provided our residents with a free performance consisting of three different acts. Being able to attend SLO Wind Orchestra performances in person is something we frequently did pre COVID and was an activity residents thoroughly enjoyed and looked forward to. During this performance, residents got to go outside and enjoy music that resonated with them and encouraged movement. Residents sang, tapped their toes, and moved to the music. It was a great afternoon filled with masked smiles and laughter. In addition to the nice afternoon, the seniors even received a special performance by SLO Wind Orchestra conductor, Jenn Martin. The holiday season calls for some festive crafts! Here is a group photo from resident- lead activity Holiday card making with Allee that took place on the fifth, and pictures of the Christmas center pieces made this last Saturday with craft and yoga instructor Mary Ann!

Today’s Friday performance brings the lovely Candlelight Strings Trio . Through their beautiful music and songs filled with positive messages, Bob, Sal, and Bettty are providing our residents with some comfort and happiness today!

Last Friday’s courtyard performances brought us multi instrumentalist Julie Beaver. We were able to enjoy the beautiful sounds of Julie’s fiddle playing and make some requests to hear our favorite country songs. Residents were also able to sing-along to popular western songs such as Don’t Fence Me In as Julie sang and played her guitar!

Cool and refreshing tunes by the lovely Rick Jarrett today to match our beautiful fall weather! Residents were able to hear a variety of music from upbeat to slow tempos and Broadway to Country music!

Our residents had a FALLnomenal time yesterday at our very own pumpkin patch! Residents were able to enjoy the classic Fall tradition of visiting a pumpkin patch in the safety of our facility. Each resident was able to pick out several pumpkins to take home to enjoy this holiday season. Who knew there were this many different kinds of pumpkins? Here are some pictures from our courtyard Halloween celebration last Friday. Residents were able to join their neighbors for a festive afternoon filled with spooky music, Halloween trivia, a costume contest, and of course a delicious seasonal cocktail! It was a fun Friday filled with silliness and laughs that helped lift their spirits

The one and only Rick Jarrett is back today with his Monday monthly show! With his familiar face, charming personality, and of course his talented singing voice, Rick always manages to put smiles on all our faces.

We had so much fun with Friday’s banjo performer, Gary Ryan. This local business owner has been playing instruments since age seven! His decades of experience allowed him to create an interactive show; challenging residents to try and stump him with requests. No matter the genre or year the song was from, Gary was able to play them all! Thank you for a Friday full of laughs, Gary!

Last month residents enjoyed painting and decorating Terra Cotta pots in our lovely Arts & Crafts room. To help get us into the Halloween spirit, this month offers several crafting activities such as: Holiday card making, Halloween sign decorating, Jack-o-lantern sweatshirt making, Fall wreath decorating, and some surprises to come later on in the month

Performer Laura Ruth helped residents celebrate Oktoberfest this past Friday. From German songs and yodeling, to classic hits from The Sound of Music, residents were able to celebrate this German festival the best way possible: with a beer in their hands!

San Luis Obispo Wind Orchestra was so generous to provide a volunteer performance for our residents today! The performance included three groups, where they performed in each courtyard for ten minutes. Residents were able to enjoy a 30 minute performance which included: Clarinet soloist Richard Guitar soloist Jennifer Oboe and bassoon duo Heidi and Emmie (featured in video). ... Rick Jarrett is back today with his monthly Monday show! Residents have been enjoying all sorts of genres of music today in their respective courtyards. All performers travel from one courtyard to the next, giving a twenty minute show five separate times. Residents are able to step right outside their door and hear our wonderful performers while still maintaining a safe distance from others.

Today’s Friday performance featured sing-along duo The Mardales.They started off their rock ‘n’ roll show with a harmonizing tribute in remembrance of 9/11 .

Here are two of the five songs world-class violinist Brynn Albanese is blessing us with today! From dramatic love songs to Scottish jigs, our residents sure are enjoying today’s music performances. What a treat!
