For people who asked about the Mask Maker image, here's the explanation straight from Katy Winchell herself. I asked her for more info and she kindly answered m...e. Sure. I learned through NextDoor, a community connection app, that some home Hospice workers (like chaplains) were getting nervous, around March 20, about going into patients' homes because of the virus. Melody, of Hospice, asked for homemade masks to better protect them. I answered the call, & provided a couple dozen homemade masks. After Melody came to pick them up off my porch, she called me from her car to thank me. I went to the window to wave at her & thank her for letting me help those on the front lines. She had the idea in that moment about "Rosie the Riveter" from WWII. She called a graphic designer she knew & told him her idea & commissioned him to design something for this effort, so she could design a Thank You card for me! I shared it with a fellow quilter, who had teamed up with me, & we both wanted to share it more widely. We asked Melody & she asked the designer & they both gave us permission. I put it on Facebook, & it took off locally. It's now called "Mindy the Maker". The Asheville mask-making community group shared it, & then contacted the designer, & now he's selling products with this design, to support the mask making effort with the proceeds. It's a really neat story! I can't believe all of this resulted from me wanting to help healthcare workers stay safe & better care for their patients. I hope that answers your questions. Stay safe!
